wiper problems

ok when i turn my wipers on they work but when i go to turn them off they go straight up instead of laying down like there supposed to, what could be causing this?

It is a shut off nub on the driver side wiper housing that needs to be bent back out. It tells the wiper when its at the home position. Here is where it is:
