Default Why the Boost limit on the 3800 V6 vs other cars like Supra's ?

I keep seeing these videos on 1000 whp or more Supra's and other cars with 35-50 psi of boost. Maybe I'm missing something, but I haven't heard of too many 3800's pushing over 20 psi even with a turbo. My machinist said the high nickel content in the 3800 block makes it really strong so why are we limited?

Most people stick to around 14-20 lbs because we make damn good power right there and that's enough for most people.

Most of the time the only "safe" way to push over 20lbs is with e85 or race gas. But I'm sure there are a couple people over that with just pump gas. And past 20lbs...well that's where the big power comes in

Really though, injectors are the limiting factor along with your pump to push over 20lbs. Alternative fuels are going to affect how much timing you can run which is what I should have specified.

    Ha, thats just budget.

If you have the budget, the products are there.

We don't have a transmission worth a damn past 350 WHP to use.

Those 2jz that are pushing that much horsepower also have a ton of money put into them. The turbo alone on one of them is probably Anywhere from 2-5K. Our cars are also fwd which doesn't give us a lot of options for transmissions. The supra being rwd all you need is an adapter plate and a custom flex plate and you can bolt on a wide range of transmissions. A guy doing a 2jz swap into a 240's that I know used a built th400/turbo 350 transmission. So like matt said the transmission is what limits you.

They are also dyno queens to an extent.

You'd have more luck comparing grand nationals to a supra. There are guys pushing 20-30psi through these blocks but the power can't be transferred to the ground so why bother pushing more.

In the beginning stages of building my Supra now, I will have both cars available and I soon will be able to tell you the differences first hand! LOL

My next Japanese car at sometime. Getting tired of the noisy Honda FWD.

our GN runs at 17 lbs boost, stock.
we have bigger engines than 2jz engines. therefore we need and are limited to "less" boost (lower psi).
when you start really pushing those higher boost numbers, then you start to have to worry about the bottom end even holding up. granted, there are some high whp bottom ends holdin up BUT those aren't run everyday. and then when you make that power you really have to spend big bucks on your trans, and we own grand prixs, so most of us dont have that money to put forth. hence the lower boost numbers.
turbo setup is a big factor as well.

Supra's are mighty expensive to play with. Plus those guys with 1000hp are running a turbo bigger than my head, which in turn means it takes a bit rev range to spool them.

Not to mention, when anything breaks, they dish out cash right away to fix it...Not like us with GP's where if something breaks the car gets garaged and were forced to drive a beater. Must be nice to have money coming out of ones ears.

The other option is to make 60, live on 25, and spend the rest on your car.
