    Default Trunk Lid Speaker Install

Ia am well underway in installing a set om component speakers underneath the trunk lid as well as a decorative piece in between the two sets. I will shift power from my amplifier using a relay to reroute power from my rear deck 6x9s to my trunk lid speakers when the trunk is open. This is a very ambitious project for me. So far I have fiberglassed the deck lid itself to create a mold and also created MDF mounting brackets to mount my speaker rings onto as well. I will post pictures asap of my progress any any ideas on what to put into the center ring, Which will be shown shortly from the pictures will be greatly appreciated. I think for now im going to use some gray vinyl and then put some sort of blue felt with Pontiac cut out of it. When I get back into school im going to use the laser cutter to engrave plexiglass and then use led back lighting to make it glow. Ill post some pictures of that as well.

Here is a picture of my current setup and where I want to mount the speakers on the inside of the trunk:

Here are two of my quick ideas on what to fill the center with. The top on is the vinyl route and the bottom is the engraved plexiglass:

Got finished up with all of the fiberglassing, bonding and carpeting and got the midranges installed and operational. There will be pictures to come. Next is to use a laser cutter and etch some plexiglass and work on the lighting and install the tweeters. Almost done. Pictures to follow.

Here are those pictures I promised.

Here is after some bond and sanding, you can see how neat the contours turned out.

The relay that controls the speaker output using the trunk switch. When the trunk is closed, power from the amplifier is sent to the rear 6x9's but when it is opened, it is rerouted to the trunk speakers. You can see the 4-pole double throw relay on the right that controls both speakers as well as two additional power sources which were wired to the trunk for further lighting.

Here are two pictures of it carpeted and mounted with speakers which work wonderfully. Still need to mount the tweeters as well as etch the plexiglass that will go in the center opening.

I was at a tailgate and my friends knew i had a decent system in my car so i was designated to play the music. After a few minutes I realized I was working my system pretty hard and that only the two front door speakers were facing the rear of the car, so I decided to take everyones trunk mat idea and spruce it up a bit.

Its not bad at all, two sealed subs with a small displacement makes a nice tight bass. Also the trunk speakers arnt on all the time, only when the trunk is open.

Slammin'! I'd honestly install a volume/off knob in the back there attached to the speakers/tweeters so that you can leave it off or whatever. Though, I guess if you've got a remote for the headunit, that would work, too.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Yeah, I understand. Whats cool is that it works on a relay so basically when I open the trunk, the backlight for the plexiglass lights up and the speaker output for my 4 channel amp is switched from my rear 6x9's to me trunk speakers, all without me having to do a thing! Works really well and I am very happy with how it came out.

I appreciate very much all the support you few have given me. I have to thank those two guys who install the trunk lid mats, they are what gave me the spark to make this all happen.
