Trannyman, do you do Head work?

    I'm just curious if you do. I'm looking to get some pricing. I was thinking about doing a set of heads and a cam. Not sure if i'll do it or not, cost of everything will determine that of course.

    I know you did a hellova job on my S/C, so I figured for any port work i'd ask you first.

    Hi Shawn, yes I do head porting also. The cost is $995 for a complete port job / head rebuild / valve job etc. Those that have my heads can speak of the quality and thoroughness of the port work, its done right. There generally a 3-4 week wait time on them as I usually lose a week of machine shop time plus fitting in porting time with everything else and it takes 10-20 hours to do both heads. This price does not include a core and is also with all stock valves and springs, upgrades are extra though I havent found any other valves I am happy with at this point so I prefer stock sizing unless you are going for every last few HP you can gather up. The 04+ L32 heads have the largest intake/exhaust valve combo and is a great core to start with.

    Here are a few pics of some heads I am working on now. The exhaust ports are ported for the most port to what type of manifold/header combo you have. These are for pacesetter or Tog Extreme headers which have 1 3/4" primary tubes. Porting the exhaust port too much will hurt low end torque and also your header tube becomes a restriction so the large end of the port becomes a lazy airflow area. I have found over the year that keeping these sizes close to the exhaust helps out, keeping the outlet of the exhaust port smaller gives the airflow a lip to catch on for anti-reversion and helps with airflow velocity.     I have never had them on a flow bench, there isnt one really close to me to use and it was never a concern. I have been porting for years and with these heads I learned what works well and what doesnt. Plus you cannot duplicate boost on a flowbench

    Trannyman, are the L32 heads interchangeable with the L67's. Ive been looking for some heads for a project but if the L32's are better and I can use them, I'll look for a set of those instead.

    Hey Dave, want to experiment on a spare set of LT1 castings? After comparing the AFR and Trickflow designs, ported stockers may be better and more cost effective. Here are the two companies that are best known for porting stock heads:

    Scotty the L32 heads bolt right on. And on a plus side other than starting with a slightly larger intake and exhaust valve they are newer and will have less mileage on them.

    Ryan Im not sure about your heads. I have ported my share of SBC heads but the LT1 heads are a bit different and for the cost of porting and larger valves from me you would be better off buying reworked ones from a reputable supplier of them, or as I have recommended AFR all the way! If I ever have another small block that is the only head I will buy for it regardless the cost, trust me they are worth it!

    Appreciate the info Trannyman! I will definately keep you in mind.

    I was thinking about doing heads and my LIM, match em all up. I already have 105# springs + ret on the shelf, along w/ Viton valve seals.

    Those AFR's are kind of hard to find, but they do look nice! How about a ported intake manifold?

    The intake is no problem at all, but honestly if it was mine I would get an LT4 intake and call it a day

    No problem, they are really the same as a L67 head with larger valves, and I have been preferring the use of those valves in the series 2 heads for longevity and easy adaptability.
