Torque stare refinishing

Got a set of torques starts I plan on refinishing myself, can I sandblast them and if so what media would I use? Some one suggested don't blast use airplane stripper, would that be better?

Sand blasting is way better if you are trying to get everything off the rim.

Then prep it for paint or powdwercoat.

As for the media, I'm unsure on that one. I'm sure you could google it or call a local sandblasting/powdercoat place.

I just want to polish and clear coat them

doing anything abrasive is going to require you to repair the finish on them.

if they are oxidizing there is little you can do besides strip and recoat in some fashion. if they are not oxidizing then get out your fun time waxes/polishes that you'd use on the paint of a car and have at it.

Thanks bio, no they are not oxidizing somebody when taking the tires off scrapped them down to the metal on each spoke I will try to post picture in the next few days thanks

Are they polished t stars or the painted?

Polished i would just go through the steps of polishing metal with steel wool and tripoli and junk like that lol

Its more so a chrome plating than anything I think.

That stuff can peel off if not taken care of.

its clear coated. DO NOT USE ANYTHING YOU'D USE TO POLISH METAL.

all you'll do is scratch and cloud it up. do not destroy them, please.

I will have to post pics when the guy took the tires off the bar rubbed against the spokes and it looks he went through the clear coat down to the bare metal, in the middle of each spoke I will try and get pics up between now and friday

Due to the sun it was hard to get good pics and I was in a hurry I will try and get better pics if you think I need them but whats the best way to clean this up

ouch, those gouges look a little deep.

They are not as deep as the pic looks I will try to get better shots on one rime some still wool smoothed it out but now it is dullSo any ideas? Should I just give up and paint them? Had to do that though because I know they will chip and it will drive me crazy

they are dull now because you scuffed the clear coat. if you can polish the clear coat back again you can probably save them.

ok so I am thinking wet sand 800 grit maybe?

Wet sand 1000+ grit I'd think.

When I polish metal I start at 600 then 800 and then 1000 and after 1000 it starts to look shiny.

It's not metal. Treat it like paint.

2-3k grit wetsand and rubbing compound.
That is all
