Tilting 9007's!

Well I got the HID kit in that I ordered... Havent pluged them in yet, but yep they appear to be the tilting style hi/lo 9007's! ... though the l.c.l. does look a bit off, so im not sure how well they're going to work. the 1.75 measurement goes to the back side of the round portion of the arc tube (closer to base) if they dont work so well, not sure if there is a good way to modify the bulbs/housing to move the l.c.l. .... no sorry no pics yet :/

--- the tilting 9007 doesnt use an adapter ring and HID body... it's all one molded piece.

i posted a pic of the bulb somewhere here... let me find it

this is the bulb that i have... see how the body and the 9007 ring are all one piece?

his writeup had to do with the retracting bulbs that use an adapter ring to fit inside the 9007 housing (like ours) and the actual hid bulb/retractor assembly...

The only reason the VVME kit used a 2-piece assembly was because the magnet diameter was too large for the stock bulb retaining ring to pass over it. Thus you needed to install the adapter first, then the stock ring, then the HID bulb itself. That was the only thing that saved me from returning that kit because of it's piss poor performance. If it were a one-piece design like the one pictured above, I don't believe there is going to be an easy way to change it's focal point. Please post pics of the tilting bulbs in each of their positions if you can. You should be able to apply +12vdc to the high beam circuit without having the ballasts installed. I want to see how far it tilts. Do as much measuring as you can before installing your kit permanently. We need to learn as much as we can here for the good of the community.

If you can't modify/adjust the 1.75" measurement, I'm afraid it won't matter if the kit tilts, retracts, or sits and spins...

i think i can do that without the balasts hooked up... have to look at the big wire harness that came with

and ... when you have it tilting out of the headlamp housing for measurements, can you tell by the sound or looking into the unlit lamp the mechanism driving the tilt action? motor/gear or solenoid?

related question--

when you put your 9007 bases in the lathe and machined out the center for your custom spacer, how big where you able to make the ID? were you at the max ID possble?

I machined them by hand with a single-point cutter to the maximum I felt comfortable with. (Just before the plastic explodes, I guess...) I'll look in my notes at home and give you an estimate as to how big I was able to hone out the old 9007 base.

absolute worse case scenario would have me removing the current 9007 base/gasket area and fitting another to it in a different place, but not sure if it would fit/work... dunno!

Hmmm...interested in what you come up with...than a link if all goes well.
