Default New build for the gsx

Sorry I didn't have time to copy and paste the entire thread over.
But if anyone is interested , it's here http://www.regalgs.org/topic/58752-n...d-for-the-gsx/

nothing major like a csc or turbo but m90 s3 cam and heads build (maybe now I will put my slp stage "3" badge on)

    L26 build

Edited 5/20/15 Copied all the pics over from the regal site Lots of pics to pass the time

    Waiting

    Super clean -

The heads look amazing too bad I can't use em

    Will re use the rockers

GM valve seals - green for exhaust blue for intake

Only thing that didn't like sitting all these years was the dex cool. Very bad stuff / I'm willing to bet if it was green coolant, it would be a lot nicer looking in my water ports

Block looks great. Can read every date code even on the bottom of the oil pan

    The big controversial bottom end

Stripped down for cam/ double roller

lol you're on the right track, well corn at least

The 130lb spring I was missing came in today -- Friday hopefully my l67 comes out ! Yay me. Then slowly swap over the parts I'm re-using. I say slowly because I like to clean as much as possible.

That custom surface-ground oil pump cover from Gr8tracingfool worked like a charm with a single metal gasket

I've been working at it here and there

Chased the bolt holes. Cleaned them
Up.Used high temp thread sealant by permatex
10ft/lbs to make sure they are seated
Coated the gaskets. Letting it dry. Then hopefully today assemble the heads.
That's about as far as I can go until I need parts from my current motor to continue.

im lacking a hoist still. that will be the next hold up lol

i was waiting for the die grinder bit for the heads. there was no reason to start any thing else until the heads were done. now i look at shinny heads as i walk to a dirty engine that needs TLC still lol

ill be up to your speed tomorrow. and we will be both waiting for parts off the running engine. im not even putting my heads on till the day my engine comes out. i need the springs and rockers off it. im not putting the stock springs back on just to swap em again. much easier heads off to get the springs on too.

Wise man learns after his first teardown that cleaning the motor prior to teardown is easier. I learned the hard way too.

Scott, I thought you had a compressor and could put the springs on with the engine together?

Bob.. please spray brake cleaner on a rag and wipe out the freeze plugs. It's amazing how much nicer it'll look

I hope you both have some Purple Power/Simple Green on hand for when you yank the motor. That day.. the car should be sprayed liberally in the engine bay and hosed repeatedly. Clean it right up and install will be much better/cleaner.

    ps..it installs this side up

Great idea Bill. I like your attention to detail.

Also - the part I'm anxious for is the engine bay cleaning. No idea if it's even possible to get it perfect. Then comes the topic of debate - to roll on / spay on some rust oleum or not

Bob, I pulled out the pressure washer. Sprayed down the bay with cleaner first.. Pressure washed.. sprayed down again and again with pressure in between. It'll come super clean.

I believe its dupli color ? Engine paint .
Once the motor and parts are painted , I use a spray bottle with csr soap and water mix to clean the engine. Anything else hurts the paint and ruins it. It's a trade off for not using powder coat I guess

Bill - good idea. Just don't have a working power washer at the moment ....

For the support braces and other red parts not getting too hot, I use rustoleum sun burst red or sun fire red. Works great

Justin and I started to remove the L67

Came out the side pretty easy with trans still in car

Sitting on a custom pallet for the motor

Made the "custom" L67 motor mount bracket fit the aluminum oil pan. Just need to make 2 small cuts and its perfect , just like Bill said it would
