Default Tire rub after steering rack replacement

So I've replaced the steering rack and outer tie rods, and now both front wheels are rubbing the rocker cladding. Did a search, and found another user posted pics of his similar issue. See here:

What did I do to cause this? I dropped the rear subframe bolts to slide out the rack, but have since torqued them back down. Have not done an alignment yet, but I can't bleed the system bc the tires are going to break the plastic when I try to turn lock to lock. Any thoughts?

thats nuts, the rack has nothing to do with where the wheels line up.

you change any other parts? lca's?

if the frame was not back up right the rack would be about hitting the firewall. if not resting on it. the only way i can see the wheels moving is if the frame some how is installed wrong. or it moved a lot some how.

second thought, when the steering wheel is straight, are both wheels straight? or is it pigeon toed one way or the other. due to the tie rods not being remotely close to where they were. you count the turns off of the old tie rods? the install the new ones the same turn count?

You can can get 1/8" forward and back if you loosen the all 4 cradle bolts.. which he probably did doing the rack. Almost verified by the fact that Both tires are now rubbing.

I can't think of anything that would cause that. The entire knuckle assembly would have to move back multiple inches. Meaning the axle, strut, sway bar, everything.... Even if they sold you the wrong tie rod ends, that couldn't have happened.

Having just taken apart both front knuckle assemblies on my car, and did rack and pinion, I don't what you could have done man.

Im interested in how the struts look? Are they perfectly vertical or leaning? How are the front strut towers? Are they rusted enough to give that much?

i think his tie rods are turned in to far. only reason for this. thinking he winged the tie rod install.

Yeah...I'm kind of an idiot. I had the car on the lift, in the air with the suspension partially unloaded. This put the corner of the rocker close to the tire. So close that it rubbed. Let the car down all the way, wheel goes up in wheel well and increases the gap between tire edge and rocker. No rubbing now. Pretty embarrased, but at least it was an easy fix. Thanks for the replies though!

ive done my rack, had it in the air to bleed the air out, turned lock to lock wheels off the ground 15 times, never touched the inner wheel well.

im sure you need an alignment real bad.
