    Lightbulb Supercharger Questions

    Hey,

I have a question about an upgrade that I want to do on my Grand Prix. I would love to add a supercharger, but am not sure what kind of work that is going to involve. Here is what I have:

    2001 Grand Prix GT-3.8 V6.

My question is, can I just install a supercharger or do I need to do other work to the car such as different motor, trans, or anything else major. I would really love to add one on with all the other upgrades that the car has. I have a modified exhaust, stage 2 chip, upgraded plugs and wires...and want to give her some more go. Any advice would be appriciated...I just want to know how much time and money is going to be involved or if it would be wiser to just look for a grand prix that is already superchared....thanks!

It's called a top swap, that means supercharged heads, lim and supercharger. Along with 3 extra pulleys, dual ribbed harmonic balancer. And a load of tuning.... And I'd like to know your definition of a "stage 2 chip"

Performance chip...it was installed prior to me buying the car...sounds like a lot of work, but I am sure it would be worth it. Like I said, I am throwing the idea around because I would like for it to be supercharged, and am also sick of every person who says "sweet car, is it supercharged?" Ughhh...I don't need my car to go balls to the wall or anything, its my everyday driver, but a bit more go-go is always welcomed and that is all I am looking for really. Thanks for the info!

Its not a lot of work..you can do it yourself for the cost of a 10 cent resistor. You basically install a resistor to your IAT to trick the computer into thinking the intake air is cooler than it is, causing it to inject more fuel that your car isnt going to burn fully. All it really does is carbon up your motor.

Here is a thread on things needed for topswaps:

I would be ripping that "chip" asap, doesn't nothing but make your engine think its getting super cold air(when it isn't) then your computer dumps fuel in thinking that its getting all this cold air. so all your doing is running rich and losing power.
TRUST ME, I did this "chip" with my sunfire years ago and I got power....when i took it back off lols.
