Running a power wire

Okay so i feel like a complete noob asking this since i have wired up 2 or 3 other cars with amps and subs and speakers but, i cant seem to find a place in the firewall that theres an existing place to put a wire through. I am wondering where you guys have either drilled a new hole for a power wire or if theres a place that im just missing that i can run it through? All help is very appreciated.

It should fit nicely through the shifter boot in the firewall. You may need to make a slit in the boot to help it fit through.

What year car? On the 97-03's there is a grommet on the passenger side firewall, down by where the power steering pump is.

its a 05 grand prix base model. where would i find the shifter boot in the firewall?

Passenger side I wanna say 6-8" from the strut tower and about half way up the firewall. Its a rubber grommet.

okay so i got the power wire run and everything and all the other wires needed and i had a subwoofer already installed in my car(paid to get it done) and i just wired up speakers to a new amp. for some reason that i cant figure out it will power and play music from my speakers and after it reaches a certain music level it turns off for some reason? ive checked all the connections and cant seem to figure it out. im not sure if anyone here would really know what to do or if i should go to an audio forum lol

Your amp isn't getting enough power. Bigger alternator, better battery and possibly consider a capacitor.

Are you running the proper gauge wire for your amp? How many watts at what resistance?

Have someone slowly turn up the volume and use a DMM on your battery and look for a significant voltage drop. Also, what is the impedance on the sub?

What size power wire did you run? Where did you ground it too and did you scape the paint away to make sure you got a good ground?
