Random Orbital Polisher?

I used a $20 Craftsman bonnet buffer with Turtle Wax for years. Mediocre results, but results nonetheless.

I "HAD" one too, its in the trash now lol

But if someone had just dumped an orbital one at my feet and it worked... I might not have my PC.

i dont even own my own, i use my brothers, but he made me go out and get all my own pads, and products. cant blame him, thats a large cost, the supply's.

as for the links i cant find anything online besides it for sale on ebay. i think its pretty old. ill get some pics up here in a few. but yeah i havent waxed my car ever and i dont think my mother ever did either (she bought it brand new in 05 and recently gave it to me for my 16th birthday) so its got a ton of swirls and with this nice weather ive been trying to decide when i will get to polishing and waxing it BY HAND then i came across this in my shed like i said and was amazed

your going to want to get a liquid compound, i used turtle wax liquid compound heavy to medium, it cost under 10 bucks. it will take out the swirl marks and get rid of the haze, it will look like it was waxed, but its only compounded. then wax it, you can get a soft foam pad to put the wax on, any wax will work. and the buffer works it in better.

dont stop working a section until the compound is dry, when its dry, wipe it off, ( you'll figure out how much compound you need for a section after a few passes) it should come off like dust, no real rubbing needed. same thing with the wax work it in till its dry, then wipe it off.

i plan on throwing away the used terry bonnet because i do not know what products have been used on it (thats bad right? mixing products on rags), should i also throw away the used foam pad thing or would it really hurt anything using it?

i would fill in the bottom where it has that rim with 3 m double sided tape, then put velcro over it, then stick a real pad on it.

i guess you have to put the terry cloth over that pad?

the pos i had was 8 inch and had to tie on everything, it was always coming off.

yeah the cloth fits over the black pad thing. its pretty snug fit and really hard to get on lol

all you can do is give it a shot. i do believe that they sell bonnets like that but with something of a more aggressive pad.

do what this guy say in this video, How to do a "Section Pass" with a Porter Cable 7424XP - YouTube just dont stop and just let it spin in one place, you could burn the paint off, apply firm pressure to the buffer.

I'm getting some good ideas here. I know what I'm doing this weekend

Pressure to the buffer is what burns paint! let the pad and the compound your using do the work if its not doing a good enough job use a harsher compound. And start with the lightest compound to get the imperfections out its easier to use harsher compound than correct a panel where the compound could actually make it worse. And lastly IMO I would only use compount with a buffer and use wax by hand, thats just me.

im with ya, but you do need to hold it down to the paint, you dont want it all lose and flapping around. and slinging snot all over.

For the love of god, tape the black trim around your windows off. I keep forgetting to and keep burning the thin layer of paint off in spots. Learn from my fails.

the tapes a good idea, i also left a white spot on my window trim.
