    Default question about transmissions

I have an 04 grand prix gtp,
Thinking of building up the transmission to be able to hold around 400hp..what upgrades would I need. Would I have to worry about suspension around 400hp what about pistons? Clueless on the levels of these cars for suspension and pistons..where would be the place for the best but also best price on upgraded tranny parts.??

Scroll to the bottom of this page:Transmissions

The Street/Strip trans at the bottom has everything you would want for 400+ Hp builds.

Triple Edge Performance - Home Page Sha-bam!

The pistons will hold it, as long as you tune it right, and arent knocking/too lean. (which is true for most engine...weird huh?)

Edit: Yes suspension will come into play. Being able to launch right, and have the car keep up with the performance level are good things. Also, upgraded brakes mebbe?? Might be nice to stop when you're flying down the road at 224mph.

Pistons are fine, get headers, smaller pulley, open cone intake, and more..

Suspension has nothing to do with it, but if you want upgrades, its expensive but KYB AGX Struts and lowering springs (to look good). Easy to switch out the front sway bar with the Dorman solid sway bar.

Actually suspension is a necessary component. These cars came with 200hp suspensions in 240-260hp cars. You want to effectively double HP and expect handling to stay the same?

You may want tubular LCA's to combat tq steer.

Hippo, he will definitely need more than what you listed if he wants 400whp.

And suspension is very necessary because it needs to be able to handle the added power/speeds. Hence, it would be wise to upgrade every component.

EDIT: Nixon beat me to it.

Lol thank you guys so worry about Struts all that junk, then obviously injectors and fuel pump and smaller pulleys maybe cam and exhaust all that junk. And go to that site for info on tranny?

I wouldn't recommend building a tranny unless experienced in it, go to that site to buy one lol. Injectors you probably won't need, just the things I said and a cam and really good tuning, and exhaust.

exhaust, in no way shape or form, can be a "maybe" option on the to-do list. it IS a must.

see the safely modding thread for a general structure.

EDIT: hippo, injectors that flow more are almost definitely gonna be something he needs if he wants to get near 400hp.

You can't just slap a pulley and expect the world. 400hp/320whp is a long way from stock 260hp/210whp stock.

Please stop posting in this thread.

400hp/320whp most certainly requires at LEAST 42lb injectors.

You can get to 400 by pulley...

You just also need a big ol cam, some fairly extensive head work, some exhaust, an intercooler, and a fat wallet.

You have no place telling the guy what he needs. I'll leave it at that.

    This.

You'll easily spend what the car is worth if you wanna do it right.

400HP is much easier to get with a turbo setup. If you're sticking with a S/C setup, try to find a Gen V, and have the inlet ported. Fullsize intercooler, larger injectors, ported heads (with higher # springs, and all those goodies) Tiny pulley, full exhaust (or just put a dump on it in the DP) a nice cam, and then all the other little things...

Then, make sure you have someone who can tune lined up. Cause a tune will make or break the car.

Also, consider getting a 3.29, to get a little more acceleration outta the setup.

Guys guys guys no worries I've read the safe modding thing, I know everything about it..I have a gen v already. And with what I'm about to do...headers, dp, Cai, smaller pulley. 3.6 safe...my tuning guy said, I'd be pushing 335hp crank least, 355crank most. With tranny stock and injectors fine, I have the 04 gtp remember...I just don't know much about the tranny...
