Default Project 91 Firebird Build Thread

Well it's been almost 3 years since my brothers 91 bird was wrecked and parked in a storage unit. He had moved out of the house and never had the interest or time to pursue fixing it. Now he has moved back into the house and we decided to pull the car back out of it's grave and begin to work on it again.

First off let's take a look at what it did look like, we have few pictures since hard drives have crashed and it's been such a long time since the car was 100%. We got the car way back in 2000 wrecked in the front for dirt cheap and did a complete restore on it around 2003, here is a picture in 2006 before it was wrecked, although it had been rearended prior to this pic and you can see the rear quarter buckled in the picture.

Now, in 2006 my brother was on his way into work at wal-mart when he was cutting across the parking lot, he noticed another person also cutting across. He looked over to make sure the guy wasn't going to hit him and ran into one of the concrete surrounded light poles at about 10 mph. I wish i could dig up the actual pictures of the day we parked it, but this will suffice. Here it is about a week ago after we dug it out of it's grave.

Now we have one goal in mind, restore it back to what it was and maybe do some motor work later on. It's just a stock 305 tbi and we have had aspirations to go 350 or maybe even lsx. Anyway, the frame is only slightly, and i mean barely, pushed in. And the mounting of the core support to the frame rails are destroyed but we can cross that valley in due time. Right now we have gotten the front end completely disassembled and for what it's worth the radiator is still in great shape and the car runs fine. Here's pics of progress thus far.

In it's day it was one of the cleanest 3rd gens around here, and still is. It's just going to take some time to get it back to what it was. On the to do list is fix the rear bumper, fix the buckled quarter, complete front end replacement (fenders are buckled, hood,, bumper etc) And one door skin that was attacked by a phantom cart in wal-mart parking lot one day. So far we have a new front bumper, rear bumper, quarter skin, a formula hood, and the honeycomb support for each bumpers. What's left are a pair of fenders and a door skin. I'll try to update this as we go along but it may be slow.

It looks better without the front on it.

I was never a fan of those, but I do like that color.

That's really not that bad at all. The hardest thing is gonna be paying for the new engine, and eventually the rear end it's gonna need after said engine is put in.

Nice car, although I still think the GM designer who decided to go with the batmobile nose was on drugs when he drew it.
