Permanent Water spots?

Picked up a used 08 gxp about a month ago finally have to time to tend the little things..... On my Sunroof, side mirrors and some of the windows Ive got what looks to be permanent water spots that wont come. any Ideas on How to remedy this?

The first thing you can try is Vinegar. Just use it straight, but dont let it sit on the paint too long, no more than a minute or two at best.

The other thing you can do is try and using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. You certainly do not want to be rubbing those on your paint, but your mirrors and sunroof will be okay.

If neither of those work, I'll be at a loss.

i would also try rubbing alcohol, but dont let it sit on the paint too long...

Just an update Magic eraser was the only thing that worked on the mirrors and it took 30 min of light pressure. ( im pretty sure it just took of mirror material not just the water spots so be very careful. I do not recomened the eraser for windows the small corner i tried seemed to scratch the glass. So as for the windows nothing work i will still have to try the alcohol but i doubt it will work since ive used some really strong chemical cleaners. Thanks for all the suggestions though guys. I guess ill just tint the car up to hide the spots lol

my sunroof has them, and I have tried everything including oven cleaner, and rubbing compound, I am going to try the next time I wheel it to use a wool pad on it

Well I dont know how safe it would be to use, but since the water spots are caused by calcium deposits mainly, maybe something like CLR would take them out. However, I dont know safe it would be on the paint.

That is what it sounds like to me is hard water, it is real bad in my town and if you wash your car and let the water dry on the windows it is a pain to get off. I actually have to CLR my faucets and shower heads to get it off of those, maybe next year we can have the $$ for a water softener.

hard water is bad, especially on dark colored cars. i would say your best bet is to give it a really good wash first with pH balanced water, then clay bar it really good, the claybar usually can get most of the hard water spots out from what ive experienced. Then follow it up with a good coat of quality wax, and keep up with it so it never happens again!

VINEGAR + WATER.

Trust me. Combine the 2 and it will come off your car in 2 seconds. Wash your car right after you use it. Its what they do at the detail shop down the road.

0000 steel wool with window cleaner will clear the glass up nicely.

are you guys not afraid of scratching your glass?
that makes me chringe thinking of using steel wool on glass. and chrome?

it wont scratch it. especially the 0000 extra fine.

it takes ALOT to scratch glass, I have never ever scratched glass with fine steel wools before, mainly because they dont have the properties to scratch glass.

Factory chrome wont scratch either, however if you are retarded and use something other then 0000 on it, the chrome MIGHT scratch, mainly redips.


Most show cars use 0000 to spot detail at the shows, hard water marks will cease to exist once 0000 is on the job

Ditto, I use #0000 steel wool and glass cleaner all the time in my business. It works wonders and is cheap. I do however, come across some spots on glass that I have to use acid on.

If the steel wool doesn't work, look into Zaino's glass polish. I will 100% tell you that this polish will take the water spots out. But it is grainy, so you have to be double triple sure you don't get the paint with it. Just be careful and you'll be okay.

Hard water spots can be tricky to fix. (Sorry new here researching an issue with the wifes car, couldn't resist the detailing section). Depending on how long they've been on the car they can be cleaned with the vinegar trick, usually within a few days at the absolute most. After that it will require anywhere from a light to aggressive polish with a rotary or DA, I suggest Meguiars M105 and an Orange LC pad for the aggressive stuff, or M205 and a White LC pad for the lighter stuff. If you are not making head way with the M105 then it may either require a wool pad (then continue with proper polishing technique to restore the gloss), or even as far as wet sanding. Though I only advise wet sanding in the absolute extreme. It should also be done by a pro only as it can be easily hosed up, and you can be to primer or bar metal in seconds.

I have some permanent water spots on the spoiler.. Any ideas guys??

i used a magice eraser on my crown vic today after i washed it helped take off a lot of paint scuffs road crap and such as well as all the windows(i have a well and hard water) then just hit the car with a lite waxing cant see at all where i magic erased at but with out wax it does show
wouldnt dare touch the gp with on except the windows the cv is silvver so it doesnt show flaws as bad

theres also some acid stuffyou can use But id never use it

The safest way to take off any kind of water mark, whether it be on your glass or your paint, is to use a chemical based cleaning polish. You do not need an abrasive compound to take them out. A good example would be Poorboys Pro Polish, that safely cleans paint, glass, and chrome.
