New Audio Question...

I found a new receiver on Crutchfield, and I'm thinking of attempting to replace my radio myself. Only problem is, I'm being told that I might have to rewire the back. Does anyone know how to tell?

Not really sure what this means. You have to rewire any replacement head unit. They dont plug right up to your existing factory harness. You need a wire harness, specific to your car. Then you just connect the wires from that harness to the head units harness. If this isnt what you were asking, please clarify.

Make sure you can find an adapter so it can fit in your car, first off.

"Rewiring" means buy an after market harness, match up and crimp the wires of the new harness to the new radio, and plug in the new harness to the old connector in your dash.

I just put a new radio in my car for the first time a few months ago, very easy.

Looks like your car is an 04+ so you will need a special adapter to keep doors chimes and that stuff

Thank you, this info was helpful. I thought I could attempt doing it myself, but I definitely don't want to chance burning up the radio by doing it wrong my first time. I hooked up a Sirius radio to the back of my factory radio, but harnesses scare me. Also, driving up to the back of Best Buy with a low cut shirt didn't help get it installed either lol They only install what you buy from the store and don't appreciate outside offers. Ooops.

Eh, you'll be alright. The harness work can be done outside of the car... you're connecting the radio harness to the adapter harness. You can sit down at a table and take your time with it, and ask questions here if need be lol. The only thing that has to be connected in the car will be the remote wire, and that will only apply if you are installing separate amplifiers in the vehicle. Does your car have Monsoon? If so, I have no experience with that other than ripping it out... but other members here do.

i just replaced my head unit last weekend, this was my first time ever working with car audio and the install was a breeze!!

When purchasing a head unit from Crutchfield they provide a wiring harness adapter kit for free, it's worth it's weight in gold cause you don't then have to cut into the stock wiring harness on the car at all.

You just take the harness connector that comes with the head unit and solder (or crimp is ok too, although solder is better) it to the adapter provided by Crutchfield. You vehicle connector then plugs into it, easy stuff.

Only problem is if you want to maintain any steering wheel controls if you have them. That's another story... lol

It's really easy, but you will need a special adapter for the onstar/doorchime bull****. Pulling the dash piece off is only a few clips. The wire portion of it is a snap when you get the adapter harnesses. The instructions with it are self explanatory. And double DINS DVD players fit great in there.
