    Unhappy Made a Mistake

ok so i went to go to buy oil today to perform a ever so easy oil change and needless to say i messed up i was at the store not paying to much attention and bought Castrol oil for my car and then i didn't realize until after i put it in my car,(which i haven't started yet) should i change it ? it's not GM Approved and i really don't want to mess this car up

in my opinion it wont hurt a thing , oil is like toilet paper , theres a bazzillion brands it only matter how much you pay depends on how soft it is. i personally run castrol in everything i own , my grand prix , my biscayne , my typhoon , my avalanche. i stay away from the cheap stuff and penzoil.

    All i run is castrol.
Just because it is not "GM" approved does not mean it is good.

Its gonna blow up any minute now. You GOT to get that stuff outta there.

Okay, maybe thats not true. You'll be fine. Just run it and change it back on your next oil change if you want to.

As long as its the same weight and whatever blend you used prior, Syn or regular, it really should not hurt. I would suggest after your next 3k-5k miles runs out on your oil, either stick with the Castrol or go back to your other and put a note some place to remember to get that same oil again

I personally have only ran Mobil 1 in my old 98 GT and now my GTX. In my 94 TBird I ran Castrol Syn and also in my 91 Civic before my GPs and never had a problem with their oil.

castrol is approved again (it had to do with the sale) it is actually a better oil now (owned by bp so they actually have a refinery unlike the original that was a mixture of everyones oils) it won't hurt anything, you may see a bit more sludge after changing the oil, or it may appear darker (depending on normal oil it may clean parts better or worse)

oil does not need a stabilizer, all it does is dilute the stabilizers that are already there, I know a guy who swears by it, and he has had a couple of major engine failures (not sure if that was the cause, but it sure didn't stop it)

yea rebuilds are costly me and my buddy did on last summer on his 98 Ford Mustang GT he had a rebuild full bolt-ons a PI swap and then he had to sell it because of school he had to get a fuel efficent car to get to school and work, selling it was pretty depressing but there isn't a day that goes buy now that he doesn't say " this summer dude i'm getting me an 03 Cobra "

You can do what I did, upgrade your oil filter to the larger size one, I believe the S-10 Blazer type filter is the longer one you can put on your engine and you can actually put in a FULL 5 qts of oil. I have it on my car and I love it.

I buy the big 5qt of Mobil 1 Syn 10w30 from Walmart for like 25 bucks and use the K&N oil filters, everyone has their preference on filters and oil alike. And I change it myself and its actually saves you money over time and I run my oil to 5k before changing it. And it still comes out pretty darn clear. But to me, 5k is the sweet spot for changing your oil anyways

As for additives? I really dont, I have used Duralube in the past on my old GT, but it had 130k miles on it, so it needed a bit of a shot in the arm. The only thing I might recommend would be getting a magnetic drain plug for your oil pan. It will help keep any unwanted metal things from floating around your engine
