u do have the car apart right? like you didnt flush the coolant and add more to drive while you wait on the gaskets?

i was doing like 80 down the interstate and layed into it then the coolant elbow blew out on me and all my coolant went every where so i flushed out the little dex-cool i had in there and replaced it with the green. im doing the LIM gasket once i have all the parts for my gen 5 swap and once i finish polishing it. the car is back together its been i fixed it all last night im not gonna leave it apart its my DD not a show car lol
GM seem better than the Felpros to me. I have the GM ones on my car and wouldn't use any other.
so you think Dex-cool is a better choice?
I do.
At the very least something like prestone long life.
well eddie then i guess you didnt have much choice. just sucks cuz ur gonna lose quite a bit of coolant doing the gasket replace.
doesnt seem like theres much of difference with felpro and gm but i suppose thats personal preference. as long as you have the metal kind which is the 2nd design, you're in a better position.
i dont like dex cool. sh!t stinks real bad if its old. which everything does but dex seems worse. IMO it tears through gaskets much quicker. if you do a proper flush you wont mix Dex and green because that is bad. so if its just green you're good. Dex seems more designed for enviornment friendly purposes. you have a good mixture of green and water then you cant go wrong. but thats just my opinion.
yea im just running what i have for now right now my coolant is 50% water im not worried about it ill see how the green holds up compared to the dex. just to see if i see a difference
I thought the green stuff was extended life already?
i have no idea lol
im just trying new things
I cant. i state that its my opinion because these are my experiences. i give my insight, you give yours, people read/do research and make a decision. i wont intentionally steer someone wrong by saying you absolutely cant use Dex but ill say IMO green is better. if you seem to KNOW Dex is better then y dont you educate us with your facts?
When people say they "flushed" out their coolant system to put green stuff in I always hope they did it correctly....
The system should be drained and replaced with distilled water and a flushing agent.....then the heater should be turned on, run the car like that, repeat flush. Then flush with distilled water at least 2 more times. Also a good idea to change any rubber hoses
This post brought to you by.....
then you risk the chance of mixing dex and green or contaminating the system with tap water
yea i know that lol but what problems can mixing different coolants cause?
it causes it to build up in certain spots causing sludge and some other things if someone wants to add something a little more technical
yea thats what i herd
