Heater blower trouble ....

My fan seems tO want to work at random.... Perhaps a lose wire but not sure... As it will slowly spin up and cut out and spin up and cut out until it reaches max force.... Sometimes it won't do anything when starting car and I have to tap on the dash some for it to start to spin.... Any ideas?

Replace the Fan. The brushes in the motor are probably bad.

^^^What he said when the brushes start fading it will come in and out sometimes when you hit a bump till it finally goes

Thanks I'll take a look at that... It just seemed to occur too random and inconsistent to be somethin major.... Like I can sometimes go for days even weeks without it happening then out of the blue it won't spin up... Then I hit a bump and oh look it's good

Definately the blower motor. Mine was making all kinds of noise and then finally quit. Bought new blower and problem fixed. I finally have heat again!

Yeah I'm gonna check all my fuses tommorow and make sure it's not it new blower is on the way but if it's just a fuse... Won't hurt to throw a new motor in it anyways... I'll hopefully have heat again before I freez to death in this 0 degree weather

you can use a test light to see if its the blower motor theres a plug on it check to make sure you have power to the plug and away from the plug if you do its the motor

I had a similar issue, and it was really interesting to diagnose. I took the motor out, and as long as it wasn't sitting upright it would work just fine. I finally figured out that when I pushed slightly downwards compressing the actual blade assembly it would give that extra umph to allow the motor to start.

What happened was water got down under the motor and sat on the panel beneath it and froze. The expanding of the water into ice pushed the armature of the motor slightly upwards causing it to become misaligned internally thus producing less power, making it intermittently operable. I just set the thing down on concrete and tapped on center of the plastic blade assembly with a hammer to push it back down. It's been fine ever since.

Yeah I think that you and I are were having the same issue... Unfortunately my car has to sit outside therefore I think your reply is spot on... My reasons are last week my car would not blow heat at all avg temp was around 17 last week... This past weekend it was aroun 38... Now I was just jammin and drivin home from eating hit a couple easy bumps in rapid succession and wha la... My face was met by a burst of heat and my blower has been working for three days now... Question. Is the blower motor difficult to get to it seems like it's gonna be tough

I have 2004 gt1

There's a panel on the passenger side underneath the glovebox. There are 3 push plugs that hold it up, so just pull them out and the panel will fall down. Turn the bulb socket to get it out of the panel. Move the pass. seat all the way back and lay down so you're facing up under the dash. You can't miss the blower motor, it's the big circular black thing mounted by 3 bolts (7mm I believe?). Just remove the bolts and it'll drop right out. Trace the wires to the firewall and the little black box it connects to is the blower motor resistor, which might be bad (but probably not). You can test the motor by hooking it up to any 12v power supply, provided it supplies enough current.
