GTP Trans problems

Alright well my dad just bought this good looking non problematic grand prix 2000 GTP and the transmission seems to only want to drive in the first 1 position and the 2 position. But after you get it going and keep shifting up into the D position it will drive. But not from a dead stop. I have tried searching with no results. Anyone ever had this problem? How did you go about fixing it?

oh because my grand prix was doing the same thing a while ago and it ended up being the solenoids in the tranny. But it took a while for the light to come on and i temporarily fixed this issue by changing the tcc fuse in the fuse box under the hood. its a small fuse.
