Arrow GTP Starts and dies after 4-5 seconds, revving the engine keeps it running

    Hi All,

I have a 1997 4 door GTP that will start and run for about 4-5 seconds and then stumbles and dies. If you apply the throttle and rev it a bit, it will run but if you let off the throttle it dies.

Video of it running here (and dying) here:

    Any thoughts here?

    Thanks!

Sounds like (can't see vid at work) it's either a maf sensor or IAC. Try unplugging the MAF and helping it stay running for a couple of min. Then see if it idles on it's own.

If Dave feels 60% throttle is 100%, what does he tell his wife.

That only means either it's pending or the pcm doesn't see the issue. It's amazing how much our pcm's can't see when we notice an obvious issue.

I would've said MAF as well. This was the problem with my sisters car.

Had the exact same problem. Cleaned the MAF and IAC valve and it fixed it.

Another side note: The problem developed while cruising at 70mph on the freeway. All of the sudden the engine died and acted as it does now. (as opposed to a condition that gradually developed over time). Just in case that helps

    NEW IMPORTANT NOTES:

I originally though that if you rev the engine it would stay running, it DOES NOT help to rev the engine, it still dies after 5-6 seconds. Sorry for the misinformation, that is an error on my part. -Oops!

I have cleaned the MAF and IAC and it did not help.

On a side note, the Service Engine Soon light does come on with the MAF unplugged.

I also seem to hear the fuel pump stop running after cranking the engine, it then runs for about 2 seconds after the engine dies. Is this normal, does it have something to do with the resistor issues?

    UPDATE:

After some digging through posts/threads on the forum, I decided to try the fuel pump resistor bypass. It worked so we're good to go!

Thanks to all for their thoughts on this issue
