Default HUD Problems

I just bought my car a few weeks ago, '02 GTP, and my HUD will either be perfectly bright, barely there, or nothing there. My best friend has the exact same car as me and he is having the same problems also. Neither or us or anyone I know have no clue about HUD systems and was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this problem.

Known problem. The light load sensor on the main HUD circuit board has a bad solder joint, or has failed. The circuit board is covered in a conformal coating, so you'll need to clean all that off before hitting it with the iron. Image below shows the sensor, labeled "D9".
