Default Air Bag Light code:B1015. Any tips?

My airbag light started coming on about a month ago. At first, it was only on about one out of every five times I started the car, but now it is on almost everytime. I had it scanned, and they said it was a code B1015 which means Passenger side deployment loop resistance high.

Is there anything I can do to fix this myself before I take it to a dealer. I really don't have the money to pay high dealer costs.

Sorry I forgot to put that, it's a 98 GP SE.

Well, the link you posted talks about high resistance, and that is what the code said, so this should be my problem, right?

I'll go outside and check my Vin # now.

if you do have a 98, then yeah that TSB does cover your car. though depending on the car's service history, it may have been performed already. if not, that's a good start.

I checked the Vin, and my car was built prior to WF293247.

I guess I'll probably start here then. From my understanding of what it says, I remove the airbag, replace the wire, then reinsert the airbag. This seems pretty straightforward to do, if someone could explain how to remove the airbag.

from another page i saw in my search, the pigtail (pn 16758256) actually gets plugged inline with the current harness (unplug old harness from airbag, plug new harness to airbag, plug old harnes to new harness.

i'll look and see what i can find on removing the airbag, but you have to disconnect LOTS of things to be messing with the airbags.

I was looking, and I found a guy with the same problem on another forum, but then when he asked how to get into the airbag, people stopped answering.

Thanks so much for your help.

You take full responsibility for messing with your airbag-- i dont. this is just what i have read.

this is what the service manual says for disable airbag:

REMOVE AND DISCONNECT

  • Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.
  • Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  1. AIR BAG Fuse (Buick) or SIR Fuse (Pontiac) from the I/P fuse block.
  2. I/P insulator (left side).
  3. Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and the driver yellow 2-way connector located at the base of the steering column.
  4. Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and the passenger yellow 2-way connector located near the base of the steering column.
IMPORTANT
With the AIR BAG Fuse (Buick) or SIR Fuse (Pontiac) removed and the ignition switch in the RUN position, the AIR BAG warning lamp illuminates. This is normal operation and does not indicate a SIR system malfunction.

enable airbag:

INSTALL OR CONNECT

  • Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  1. Passenger yellow 2-way connector and the CPA located near the base of the steering column.
  2. Driver yellow 2-way connector and the CPA located at the base of the steering column.
  3. I/P insulator (left side).
  4. AIR BAG Fuse (Buick) or SIR Fuse (Pontiac) to the I/P fuse block.
    • Staying well away from both air bags, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. Verify that the AIR BAG warning lamp flashes seven times and then stays off. If the AIR BAG warning lamp does not operate as described, perform the SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK

Thanks for that information, but do you also know how to actually get to the harness where I am supposed to insert the pigtail?
