DUDE! My window is doing this very thing. It will go down, but then, at random times (most notably when its really cold) it wont go up. It will go up in spurts. Push the up button and it goes up a little then stops. Wait a few minutes and repeat until I can get it all the way back up. Then its fine for however long it wants to be before it will do it again.

Do you mind if I turn this how to in to a downloadable type document and add it to the how to section once we get that up?

By all means Scott
Help your self to it it is here in order to help
others out.. i learned the hard way,
was told i would have to buy the motor and rip my door apart
and the price for all this really got me to lookin.
The G.M. PPL said that the window controls were $250.00
and had no serviceable parts...
The motor and labour for doing the work was just out of this world.
Since you have power this fix will fix you up..
Good luck Scott

Cool, I'll get it done before long and post it up. I'll have to follow it and see if I can fix my issue without having to spend all that money. Thanks for the information and definitely for posting up how to do all this.

My driver side window was doing the very same as described above. I had a radio/speakers installed today and i guess something finally crapped out while they were putting it all back together as they could not get the window back up. They called me back to their garage and i messed with it with them. Anyways, now it won't even budge anymore. Usually i just had to fiddle with it for a minute and let it go up in its spurts, now nothing. The guy that was installing it did like pictured above with putting the "prob" on the wires to try to bypass the switch or whatever. This did not not get the window to move either. I'm assuming this means the motor is shot? Also, the motor feels pretty hot.

Did he try both Blue wires ?
one is for up the other is for down ....
if this does not work then yes the motor is shot
for sure... hope it was just the wrong button he had the wire on...

Good luck with the repair Rob

Where can i get the little "rocker" or whatever at to replace it? Maybe I'll take the switch apart and see what the tips look like and just replace them even if it is the motor since it seems to be a commen issue and the car is now almost 9 years old with 124k miles.

As for which wires he messed with, i honestly didn't pay attention or think about it at the time. The window was all the way down, so if he was messing with the down wire that would certainly explain it doing nothing.

I went to a local salvage yard to see if they had any motors there for cheap. They did, but they already had it out of the car (so i didn't get to see where exactly it came from). The guy tells me it came out of the front door of a 99 four door (which is what if have) however after taking out my old motor/regulator the bracket that connects to the window was slightly different on the two. The one he gave me was slightly shorter and where the screws go in was angled slightly different. My guess is that the one he gave me was from the back left door or something. Stupid me didn't check to make sure they were exactly the same before hand and after getting frustrated with why bracket and window wouldnt line up just right i figued out the bracket had to be different. While messing with it i did flip the switch to see if it did anything and it did seem like it was trying to move the window.

Maybe I'll just go ahead and replace both since the old motor/regulator are already out, and i plan on keeping the car for a while and it will probably go out eventually anyway.

Anyway, thanks for posting up how to fix the switch, certainly saved me a lot of time trying to figure it out.

This is awesome. I've been pushing in on one of those little pins with a ****ing paper clip for over a year just cause I haven't gotten around to paying $80 for a new switch that would probably break again. So there are no replacement parts I need, I just need to clean up those little copper parts?

If you can not find a rocker at the wreckers

you can just take one from the back seats area until you find one....
The drivers side is the one that gets used so much that this happens...

Glad this is comming in handy

And it sure beats paying over $250.00 bucks for the whole unit....
GM will tell you there is no servicesable parts and that you need to buy the whole thing....lol

we Know better don't we

Yea I took one of the rockers from the back one, but my back window suprisingly still rolled up and down. I'm glad I saw this and it was so easy cause I remember a long time ago someone told me that if you do fix it then you lose the auto-down, but I guess that was a load of bs.

Is it possible to get all your windows to automatically roll down like the drivers side does? How you just have to push it all the way down once and it'll roll it all the way down without you having to hold it?

That is a good question..
I will look at the wiring to the switch to see if it can be done.

I cleaned my switch up and it didnt work so i bought a new one ($55) but the rears still dont work. I test the blue wires, they had power. Should the rear windows have gone up or down or all of them. Reason why im asking is because the rears have worked intermitantly since i got the car, last month i havent had anything out of the passenger side. but the driverside rear is still on the fritz. could it be the motor kicking in or out. I kinda thought either they went out or they didnt.
Is there any othertest i can do. It just seems funny that it occasionly works..

I would take a guess and say it is still the rocker switch.
The switch has little feet under them -- or nipples
and after time will wear down depending on the useage..
since you still have power there and it is working off on..
I say check the nipples out first ok. HTH's
