i used the 7" K&N i believe...it really takes some work to get it to go in at the right angle, i also bought the bigger roof flashing...my cone sits about 1/2 way into the fender well. thats where the bigger roof flashing comes in handy... It rubs a little big on the place where it rests, but i figure the flashing will hold it well enough. i haven't noticed the cone fraying or getting any debris, so i think its good and i've had it on for about 2 months now...PM me if you have any more questions, or if you need some more pics check my albums...

This is a totally nice setup you have here. I have a question. I cannot do a similar setup on my 98 gtp cause it seems the body have a weird part right in the way, this is a part of the frame, directly... So I would have to put the filter in front of that piece, which brings us just behind and a bit under the left headlights.

I can take pictures to explain what I mean, but to my point of view, that setup would have a huge amount of water on rainy days. I refer to the pictures on the first page, the red filter is where I could put it...

Is there a workaround for this? After checking some ppl FWI pages, the only idea that I have is to put 3/4 of the filter in the engine and the last 1/4 in the fender well. I really can't get more in it because of that weird frame piece...

For now, I have a ram air intake :|

Oh, and by the way, what a weid sound it gives with the supercharge!!! It sounds like a sky rocket. That's funny, but not really a nice sound!

Thanks for any input!

Weird sound? Not a nice sound? ?!

Put the stock intake back on if you don't like it.

I'm sorry dude but i don't understand your way of thinking.

"I really can't get more in it because of that weird frame piece..."

It's called the fender brace if you want the actual name and 1.) you can unbolt the bottom part very easily and bend it back or 2.) cut the thing off with a dremel. It's not like you need it any ways if you get hit in the fender your hosed anyways!

The only way you would get a huge amount of water in there on rainy days is if your one of those people that drive though flooded streets to get where you need to go.

And as for the weird sounds. You might need your head examined. Superchargers with the K&N filter on the end sound mighty mean!!! I mean who doesn't like their car to whine when they get on it when they have a supercharger ?

Just my $0.02

you could cut the fender brace or get another filter like the one i bought in the pics. i dont have problems with water getting in unless you drive through 2 feet of water

Hi, the idea of cutting the piece seems good. I tought it was some sort of important part of the frame! Just to be sure, I include a pic where I spot the place where the metal piece sits. It is exactly where the filter is.

If I can remove this piece, I am sure the filter won't get any water at all.

Does everyone has that metal piece by the way?

you mean that white cross section right on the other side of your filter in the back there? yes, i am in the process of trimming that out. dont use tin snips...takes way too long, believe me! your hands will thank you as well. just use a dremel or cut off tool if you can. its in the way for a lot of people, and just snip it out. if not that piece, i have no idea...

After doing my intake I found that the instructions were lacking a few details. Here are some things that may make it easier to make the intake.

1. I used white lithium grease to help the PVC pipe fit onto the rubber elbows.
2. A 1/2 inch drill bit works perfect for making the hole in the intake that air sensor plugs into.
3. When I got my PVC pipe I could only get it in a 10 foot length. I got mine at Men@rds and even though it was 10 feet in length it was still only $7.00.
4. I used a 12" conical air filter so I had to modify the instructions slightly. 14" for the longest piece, two 45 degree elbows, and a second 3 inch section.

I hope this helps anyone else who is thinking of doing this. With this communities help and little elbow grease its amazing what you can do.

I was thinking about doing this on my car but the factory air filter seems like it already takes the air in from the same spot as the one on here. Where does the factory air intake get the air from? And how will this be any better than just adding a k&n filter that would fit the original filter I have? Also, will I need to get my pcm retuned after doing this mod?

The stock airbox gets its air from behind the headlight. if you take off the headlight you can see the hole. And if you just drop in a K&N filter, you still have the silencing effect of the airbox, and i think the airflow would still be more restricted than this method. Trust me, you will love the sound that comes from this. And im pretty sure you dont need to adjust your PCM, as long as you still have the air sensor in you should be good.

you need a 99+ coolant bottle...it will be relocated to the passenger side strut tower

Not as easy as two bolts. If you have a '97/'98 car then you have to drill out the strut tower and slide new bolts into it holding the bottle on.
