Default Power window ISSUES!

Ok here is what happened. The night before I bought my car the window was busted out at the dealership. Nothing was taken or anything but the glass was broken. Dealership got a new window. Installed it and came to the conclusion it needed a regulator because the window would not stay on track.

I get it for 400$ cheaper and drive it home. I have leaved with not being able to roll the window down for 2 weeks.

I ordered a new regulator/motor from ZZP. It bolted in fine...no issues there. BUT the wiring for the motor is backwards. Up = down and vice versa. That still isn't the issue. With the new regulator it rolls up perfect until the last 2-3 inches and it gets messed up.

The tracks look fine. All I can figure is maybe the plastic tabs that actually hold the glass to the regulator were installed in the wrong place.

Anyone else had any jacked up problems like this? I may just take it to a body shop near by tomorrow and see what they say.

I have installed some aftermarket regulators before where they had the plug wiring backwards. It is completely fine to cut the plug off the motor and resplice the wires around the other way. The switch itself alternates one wire from hot and the other to ground and back and forth. This means the one that is hot going up becomes the ground going down, so switching the wires has no ill effect and will correct the problem of it working opposite of the switch position.

As for it not going up all the way, I need a little more specifics on "messed up" and maybe I can help you figure it out. Is it just stopping short, do you hear a grinding noise, is the glass binding and tilting towards the front?

The glass is binding and tilting towards the front. It goes up fine 3/4 of the way then starts to slow down. You don't really hear any noise but I think the tabs were put on in the incorrect place and maybe the glass sits towards the front to far.

If the dealership that you paid to have the window put in messed it up, I would go back to them.

Its 5 hours away. Not worth messing with. I went to a auto glass place today and he said that the clips were probably installed wrong. He said the clips come from the factory on the window but for whatever reason the place that did it last time installed the clips in the wrong spot. I got another glass coming for 100$ hopefully that will fix it.

Hope you get it fixed, my window is screwed up too and i havent had any time to fix it. It would roll down but wouldnt roll back up unless you kept openening and slamming the door and when it was down their would be a gap towards the back.

I've fixed a lot of issues like this with just some dry lube in the front channel. Yes, the clips do come on the glass, but I've rarely seen them installed in the wrong place. If the dealership replaced he window when it got broke, then it should have had new clips already on it, so I doubt anyone removed them and rebonded them.

Is your side mirror housing scraped? I've seen them get knocked into stuff like garage door frames and they will pinch the front glass channel enough to cause the window to bind.

Hope the new window fixes it for you, but I wish I was able to look at it in person for you to see if you really needed to go through that expense. Sorry, it's just hard to tell with out being hands on with it. Keep us updated.

I found an entire door for less than the price of that window so I am getting it. I may swap doors but if not I will swap parts till it works lol.

I actually helped a local member with his replacement regualator tonight. Also wired backwards and also tipping forward. His cable on the front most mount was very loose and I believe is what was causing the problem. The cable should be taught and have very little slack in it and I could pull his out from behind the bar of the regulator. He also had the glass in the channel on the rear of the door frame, but not in the rear channel that was inside the door. This was causing it to bind up and may have stretched the cable causing it to become loose. Either way, there is no way to fix it as you can not tighten the cable. Honestly it could just be the reason these aftermarket regulators are so cheap.

The ones for the coupes are pretty expensive.

I fixed my window. First I swapped the regulator and glass from the donor door. No luck. After swapping the guides from the donor door it was fixed.

I may still end up installing the whole new door someday. There was a dent fixed on my door and you can barely see a the body work on it. It will bug me enough to change it someday.

But for a total cost of 170$ (100 + gas) I got everything I needed and ended up finally fixing the damn window.
