I thought the PT was open to all 3800 PCM's? I can read my 99 GTP fine but can't read my roomates 02 SSEI. (in reply to JAP SLPR) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- you need to have the stock bin file first. i always wondered this too. i spent 4 hours (litterally) researching this over the weekend. you can tune most fwd v6, but to do it, you need the stock bin file, that is in the PT format. so go on the PT forums and search the downloads section, or the thread where they are all posted, and get it, then do a partial write to the pcm using that file, then you'll be able to edit that pcm.. _____________________________ CAM'D|I/C'D GEN V|ZZP TRANS| 11's or BUST Date: 1/28/2008 10:42:53 PM JAP SLPR ClubGP Addict Joined: 5/9/2003 From: Virginia Beach ClubGP Member: 12533 James Harris 1999 Bronze Mist 4 door GTP RE: Bin file Reading problem... Ah...so the stock bin is actually locked? I read the bin file directly from his car which is a completly stock file, and the PT just wouldn't open the file after reading it. So I should have no problem if I get the bin from the PT forums.? _____________________________ Jae Harris XPZ, 1.6 RR's, 2.8-2.6 DUB, Stage 4 Gen III, P&P LIM, N*, LQ4, FWI, Stg 3 Heads, ZZP Stg 3 IC , 42lb, SLP Headers, 2.5"SLP Catback, Cutsom Tranny, 3.29's, 3500stall, ICCU, LS1M, GMPP Susp, BMR F/R Sways, Next LVL STB, F-boby Brakes Date: 1/29/2008 7:43:12 AM Mithelen ClubGP Addict Joined: 8/17/1999 From: Morristown, IN ClubGP Member: 740 Paul Jerkatis 1998 Forest Green 2 door GTP RE: Bin file Reading problem... (in reply to JAP SLPR) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You need to first do a PCM Info and write down the OS ID (ie PCM Version number)... If your friend has an OS ID that isn't supported by DHP, then you are SOL, unless DHP does a database update for you to add it. Each model/year car may have several different OS IDs. These are upgrades/revisions by GM. DHP only adds support for specific OS ID's as needed so they may not get all of them for a specific model/year combo. If it isn't communicating enough to read the PCM Info, then you have other problems. There is nothing "locked" about a factory GM bin file. PT jsut doesn't reconize the OS ID, so doesn't know how to handle it. Most liekly, GM has put out an update for his car (VIN) and there is a newer version available, which is more likely supported (unless it is REALLY new, then it probably isn't going to be supported). So, you need to find out the OS ID of where is in there, then go to GM CalID site, enter his VIN, and check the update history, and see if there are other versions, and then find out if one of the other versions are supported by PT. PRJ Paul...thanks. The PT read his PCM fine, it just won't open the file. PT says file is not a supported type. So it could be the OS ID. I have access to GM's dealer network so getting the OS ID right now shouldn't be a problem. _____________________________ Jae Harris XPZ, 1.6 RR's, 2.8-2.6 DUB, Stage 4 Gen III, P&P LIM, N*, LQ4, FWI, Stg 3 Heads, ZZP Stg 3 IC , 42lb, SLP Headers, 2.5"SLP Catback, Cutsom Tranny, 3.29's, 3500stall, ICCU, LS1M, GMPP Susp, BMR F/R Sways, Next LVL STB, F-boby Brakes Date: 1/29/2008 9:27:50 AM JAP SLPR ClubGP Addict Joined: 5/9/2003 From: Virginia Beach ClubGP Member: 12533 James Harris 1999 Bronze Mist 4 door GTP RE: Bin file Reading problem... PRJ Paul, for some reason it will not allow me to check the update history of his VIN number on the CAL ID Site. Can you do it if I give you the VIN number? *EDIT* For some reason I couldn't do it on the internal site but was able to do it on the public site... So I now have the info regarding the CAL ID....is the OS ID supposed to match one of those? < Message edited by jap slpr -- 1/29/2008 9:47:56 AM > _____________________________ Jae Harris XPZ, 1.6 RR's, 2.8-2.6 DUB, Stage 4 Gen III, P&P LIM, N*, LQ4, FWI, Stg 3 Heads, ZZP Stg 3 IC , 42lb, SLP Headers, 2.5"SLP Catback, Cutsom Tranny, 3.29's, 3500stall, ICCU, LS1M, GMPP Susp, BMR F/R Sways, Next LVL STB, F-boby Brakes Date: 1/29/2008 9:44:54 AM Mithelen ClubGP Addict Joined: 8/17/1999 From: Morristown, IN ClubGP Member: 740 Paul Jerkatis 1998 Forest Green 2 door GTP RE: Bin file Reading problem... (in reply to JAP SLPR) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- have you checked the DHP site for a supported stock ssei file? There should be other .bins available that are accepted Paul is right that dhp only supports a few OSID's for each year, as there is no need to have 50 different OSID's supported for each year. But there are a few sections of the site with suported .bins available for the cars. If you can find one of those, just overwrite your stock file with the supported file and tune on. edit: i checked, they have an 01 ssei file that you should beable to use, but i haven't found an 02. So idk if you'd wanna use that or not < Message edited by 99 black gt -- 1/29/2008 11:47:12 PM > _____________________________ ITEMS FOR SALE, CLICK Date: 1/29/2008 11:40:22 PM bilemke GTP Level Member Joined: 5/10/2005 RE: Bin file Reading problem... Below is some info about a 2002 SSEi VIN I found on the net.. 12581459 12581471 N/A New calibration to correct excessively depressurized fuel tank during EVAP diagnostic 12223524 12223446 N/A Calibration to improve OBD 2 diagnostics 12218964 12218850 N/A New software to ensure operation of generic service tools 9388034 9389022 N/A Control module calibration Top is the newest calibration/bin. I think I remember seeing someone with a PowrTuner who was using a bin with OS id 12581471. If your 2002 SSEi is not at that calibration revision, and you can get it via GM, that might be the way to go. _____________________________ 97 Grand Prix GTP Coupe DHPPT and HPT, 180* T-Stat, 3.4 Pulley(it is finally on), SLP CAI, TR55IX Plugs (even though stock Delcos seemed fine), JimmyC 3" DP with cat, TB Spacer (yeah, I put it on too). the rest, well, who cares.. We have uploaded the file 12581459 with OSID 12581471 into the PCM from a TECH 2 directly from GM's Dealer site. Cause we have access like that. Now, once that was installed, we were able to read the PCM, and make necessary changes to the file. Saved a new Bin file name and went to upload the file. Once we try to upload, a failue occurs and states: unauthorized access, cannot write file. How is that? Is there a DHP 1.5 bin we could start out with? < Message edited by jap slpr -- 2/4/2008 9:24:03 PM > _____________________________ Jae Harris XPZ, 1.6 RR's, 2.8-2.6 DUB, Stage 4 Gen III, P&P LIM, N*, LQ4, FWI, Stg 3 Heads, ZZP Stg 3 IC , 42lb, SLP Headers, 2.5"SLP Catback, Cutsom Tranny, 3.29's, 3500stall, ICCU, LS1M, GMPP Susp, BMR F/R Sways, Next LVL STB, F-boby Brakes
