Default Wheel spacers?

update: http://shop.tougefactory.com/sparco/.../i-250168.aspx

these have the center ring that everyone was saying you should have? any new opinions?

original question: where can you get wheel spacers so your wheels set out a little further.

would like to warn you ahead of time thats a horrible idea. Wheel spacers are VERY expensive (if there not, there total junk), almost no wheel and tire shop will sell or install them cause they are such a hazard, puts TONS of un needed wear on your bearings, and always the chance of your wheels falling off. Thats just to name a few. Last i saw a decent pair of spacers ran around 150 +, so IMO, buy the correct wheels.

how do they add stress/wear on the bearings?

autoanything.com doesnt even have them for w-bodies? Eibach Wheel Spacers, Eibach Spacers, Wheel Spacer

I believe it has to do with the weight being set out further than it is supposed to be. It's like a lever on a fulcrum but making the lever longer sets the fulcrum back more adding more stress on the other end aka the bearings and such. The center of balance is all messed up.
............... ______..........................
_^ ______________ ^
As this shows the one on the right would need more weight on the left to balance it out and since you don't have that on your car then things break instead.

(ignore the _____)

To make it simple. Pick up a heavy book and place it in the palm of your hand. Then hold it by the edge instead. The book is now feels heavier and more stress is felt in your wrist.

thank you black, its like a teeter-totter effect, the further the weight is spaced outward the heavier it is on the mounted point. Its the same as putting oversized offset mud tires on a truck, it eats parts. Not quite as bad on your car, but rough on parts, unsafe, expensive, and why don't you just buy wheels with the proper offset your looking for. Obviously if you need spacers then you probably have aftermarket wheels that i would assume you got from a friend for a different car. Well a deals not always a deal and i've seen this a thousand times. To each his own but i wouldn't put wheel spacers on my hated enemies cars.

thats like saying putting lower offset wheels on your car will cause premature wear. if you say that then youre a 'tard.

a small spacer would not hurt anything.

most people don't put small spacers on. most of the time people put probe wheels on a mustang and put 2-3 inch spacers on it so it doesn't look like crap! 1/4 inch spacer wont hurt anything except for your mounting surface of the wheel can't sit flush and you run the risk of a wheel off.

your wheel will sit flat on a spacer. If you are afraid of your wheel coming off put a little blue loc tight on the nut.

i think the biggest problem is the wheel does not sit on the hub. when you ad spacers your wheel is hanging on by just the studs and not the center hub. like when people put aftermarket wheels on and the hole in the wheel does not sit flush with the hub of the car. Thats where the hub centric rings come in. But with a wheel adapter spacer. there is no center hub.
Im getting ready to do a little swap that includes vette wheels on a wbody. THis will be lovely.(no adapters spacers)

THANK YOU!! Someone who has a damn clue! I really didn't wanna type anything else on the useless thread but i'm happy someone else here understands how wheels are mounted on a hub! You get 8 points for not being an idiot!!

ive used the 1/4" spacers ill admit. but i wouldnt slap a 2" on there. there is no hub. Just like in my early camaro days. wanted vette wheels just like anyone else but with a 0 offset spacers were needed. But "to each his own" thats all im saying. I wont say yey or ney. Good luck

all you need is a 20mm spacer or something around there and your offset would be in a great range again to look good.

I believe he is talking about wheel spacers usually universal with 5 lug and 4 lug holes.not wheel adaptors which are about 350 a set.with wheel adaptors you have to bolt them on ur car just like wheels and then put wheel on the studs of the adaptor.what u need to be careful of is your lugs tighting down properly usually with a space it takes away some of your threads of your stud and your lugs wont be tight enough. If this happens you need to get what they call E/T lugs.I got spacers on my GTP and I have 22in rims and have been rolling for a year with the same setup no problems or hub assembly failure.

How is adding a 5mm spacer to a +40mm offset wheel any worse than a +35mm wheel?
