I've got my first track session coming up, and tips ideas things to look out for would be great. I have an 03 GT sedan with chip, intake, exhaust, struts, lowering springs, and 18's. Any suggestions are welcome.... Also if anyone has been to the track their stories/experience with their GP is welcome also

I forgot to mention I'll be doing laps, not 1/4 miles.....

I'll be at the track on the 30th, I'll tell everyone how the car did and my experience with it. Also i'll be posting lotsa pics and videos up so i hope people check back on this thread and can either learn, or enjoy - and maybe post their own experiences, or add to it

u mind if i ask what "chip" u are refering to?

That was what first caught my eye as well since they stopped with using "chips" years before our cars. I'm assuming he has a reprogrammed PCM.

Sorry, I don't have alot of autocross experience to give advice. The 18s should have a stiffer sidewall, etc. and help handling, but depending on what you have could hurt acceleration. Otherwise, stay as light as possible, be familiar with the course, and ask the more experienced racers for any advice as well.

Nice looking GP!! Wow, Canada sure lets you have alot of letters on your plates.

Im sure you know this but take out as much weight as possible. if you can take out the sound system in the back, spare tire and that junk. those would be the two main things id say to do if ur doing laps.

I'm a 1/4m guy myself, so I don't have much advice farther than telling you to use common sense...

Take out all the weight you can. If you want you can take the backseat out and try and keep both front seats as far forward as possible. Find a real desolate curvy road to practice on, don't take it to hard just enough to get a feel for turns and how to pitch it into the next. I live on one of the curviest highways in Iowa, If you brake going into turns and then accelerate a tad through them, it will help to make the turn faster and cleaner. Your front wheels will help pull you around and as soon as you feel your ass end get light/loose let off. Keep your car in 3rd the whole time so it doesn't go into overdrive. When you start the race, do a quick squeel of the tires to get all of the dirt off of them.

hey guys thanks for all the tips, i didn't think to leave it in third but thats a great idea. The weather is shaping up to be poor on the 30th, lotsa rain in my area, but that doesn't change anything. Still hitting the track, and still gonna push the car hard. As for taking the speakers out of the trunk, i do agree that the weight savings would be a huge plus, but to tell you the truth, i couldn't really be bothered by it!!!! I'm gonna lap with the bass thumping until my head cracks. I don't usually listen to loud music, but theres something about the whole track focus, and loud music that sounds awesome to me. I can't wait for it.
As for the plate with 8 letters/numbers when i ordered it, I had about 20 variations of the plate, and most were all taken, so i ended up with the longest one. I get called Tony alot!!!!!!

Just a couple quick notes.... thought the car took the abuse well. My sessions we 20 min, and then break for 40 min. So during my sessions i could warm the tires up, then do 3-4 hard laps before my brakes would start to fade, then i'd ease it back for the rest. In some cases, i found my transmission seemed to be confused and wouldn't shift out of 2nd. Other than that the car was great.... More stopping power, and more straight away speed would be welcome. Its not a track toy, its a daily driver... and thats why I love it

FYI,its not just your times that will improve by weight reduction. its the amount of added abuse your putting on the tranny and suspension and brakes. These items have enough trouble hauling around cars of stock weight, let alone 100 extra pounds of Stero equipment and going WOT from a stop. Plus where your weight is the worst spot for drag racing a FWD. You are lugging around an anchor. Watch your 60' ,1/4mile, laptime and trap improve......which is the point of going to the track.
