Default 20"

I'm looking into putting a paid of 20" rims on my car. I've placed the rims on the car but I haven't done any real driving besides around the block. My question is, what kind or brake pads should I use? And what other parts will be necessary to make them ride as smooth as possible?

not brake PADS..but brake ROTORS. you need bigger brakes for 20s. 18s are usually okay, but still pushing it.

and no matter what the car will not ride nice with 20s on it. unless youre on the stock suspension, which will look like crap because youll be driving a 4x4 grand prix. you need to lower it with wheels to make up for the rims raising the whole car up, but the ride will get worse as well.

to each his own. i loved my 19s, but i hated the ride.

I had 20's on my grand prix with stock suspension and it wasn't raised up and it also had about the same gap in the wheel wells as stock rims.

Stock brakes are okay, but not good enough imho, and I have a comp-g which is supposed to have better brakes on it already.

Biggest thing is upgrade the brake system as a whole if you plan on keeping the 20's on for extending periods of time. As the stress of the stopping with the big rims will destroy your stock brakes pretty much.

Whoah there

20's dont look bad on grand prix's as long as they aren't like lexani's or sumthin. My zennettis looked good and I got lots of compliments, and so does the guy named "suprchargd".

Agreed and derogatory comments are unnecessary (opinions are entirely different). 20s can look very nice on a GP. Also 20s by themselves do not raise up your car at all. It depends on the tires you choose to go with them. Now if you put large enough wheels on your car then yes it will without option.

As others have stated I would upgrade your overall brake system.

Depending on the weight of them it may also be harder on the trans than stock. Most things are. LOL.

The key in my opinion on 20s is to keep them classic and clean. I personally wouldn't go over 19s on my 99 GTP (18s is the largest I ever actually have). My Comp G maybe, but way too many things rank higher in my mod list.

man! everyones hatin' on the 20's! I think 20's look nice on the gp but you definately have to lower it. Im still trying to decide between 20's or 22's. But definately put a tranny cooler on it.

I have to agree and disagree with you a little bit here Lowlyfe. I agree the comments are not needed. Personally, I don't think 20's belong on our cars. Trucks, SUVs, even bigger FULL SIZE passanger cars are ok ie the Charger/300 etc. This craze for 20s started in certain circles, just watch MTV, nuff said there

As for the height thing. I just put on my full set of 18" TSW Mondellos and I could tell a diffent difference in height. I can only imagine going from my stock "winter rims" to a 20" rim would be quite noticeable.

If you look at this picture when I was sampling how my 18's would look on one side, you can see how the car listing. The rubber on the TSW's is 245/45/18 while on the passanger side its the stock 16" rims with 225/55/16 Goodyear RA's. The lean is noticeable.

Everyone is going to have their opinion on the size of rims they want, like you, I would never go past 19. For me 18's are just the right size for our car, plus when you get into those bigger size of rubber the cost of your times is gonna jump pretty high.

The affects upon the tranny I would say would be more cause of the fact the engine has to push more to drive the bigger diameter wheel and thusly affecting the tranny. And like Steven said, it will chew up brakes alot faster cause there is so much more force stop as compared to a smaller rim size.

I guess the best thing is to let whomever decide what they want, and they will have to figure out, good or bad, about their choice. We can just give them good information without to much slammin' of their choice
