They may, but personally, if I had the room and time to do so, Id rather see if I could fab some up. Some 1/8" thick x 1/2" wide aluminum strips I think would work well. The problem there is the curvature of the roof and welding it all together.

Next would be fiberglass and probably the best alternative, but then you got all the mess, jigs, amount of time and so forth.

Id have to see a car in person with them to see what alternatives there would be.

I have a plaster mold of them, cause at one time I was considering making them from carbon fiber. Don't know if that mold still exists though.

I had also thought, when I do the drag car, the roof rails would look more like the real roof rails on a NASCAR, and would be made form some aluminum angle stock.

See I thought this too, but could never figure out how one would maintain the curvature of the roof using that. It appears that the straight up down part of the rail seems to be tilted inward a little, but that could be perspective too, Ive never seen them up close.

has anyone had any experience molding urethane/silicone/rubber type stuff? perhaps they could be molded out of something like that? not sure if that's paintable though.

There was talk about fabricating some, but someone suggested if GM ever heard about it they would bring down the law on the patent of the roof rails. As long as you dont sell too many, I wouldnt worry about it.

My cousin has a anniversary edition GT with roof rails, I told him 100 bucks and he said take them, but I have to talk to my uncle, the owner of the car first... The only problem I see is that it might leave marks on his car when I take them off and I'm afraid of that.

If you look at salvage yards or know anyone that rebuilds cars, I would ask them, my other cousin who rebuilds said he's worked on a few with roof rails and would have taken them off if he had known at the time. Just keep an eye out for wrecked cars... I usually go to QCSA Auto Auctions! for my area, then I click on the sales inventory and look for grand prix's.
