Default Need a messed up hood for parts (ball joints)

I now have a ASCD hood but they didn't install the ball joints for the hood struts. Need a messed up hood so I can cut the ball joint plates (including ball joint) out of it or if someone will cut them out of the hood and send them. If there's enough metal around the ball joint I'll make it into a plate and drill the holes I need to install.

I have a old junk hood that was left behind after a hood swap/sale.

I gave it to a local who does custom paint (air brush pin striping etc.) whos just starting out, and wanted to practice on some real auto body metal.

I can drill out the spot welds and send you the plates if he will let me take them off that hood.

Let me ask, and get back to you.

In the mean time, shoot me a PM and request this so I can keep track of this deal for you that way.

He said that would not be a problem to remove them off that old hood.

I have a special spot weld drill bit, so I will see if I can remove the entire bracket for you as a whole with out much damage.

If you still are interested in it, pm me.

I'm not going to go through the work and effort till i hear back from you.

Farns, you won't have any problem with any drill bit. I removed them from my original beat up "Garage Wall Hood" (looks almost identical to that one^^) to give the brackets to the guy that bought my old SD hood. No damage at all besides the holes from drilling the spot welds. One fell off, the other I just used a chisel to break the little bit still holding and it came off easily. Took a total of 10 minutes including sealing them in the bubble wrap envelope, etc.

Cool, my dad was a structural engineer (draftsman) for over 30 years and he knows a lot of guys that can fill in the holes, and drill me new ones to match the hood! Also working on installing a child seat belt plate for the back seat in a pre-03 vehicle that doesn't have one. Will probably do both projects at the same time.

^Jason, thanks for the tips. I have drilled spot welds before only to remove and reinstall new body panels, never to remove a bracket for reuse. I don't see it being too hard to do though.

PMed ya back Scotty, I'll get to it for ya.
