i'd think they would need to be actual tubes.... solid wouldnt really do much good, i'd think. if you were going to do it that way, i'd actually look at afixing some sort of low-profile heat sink to the pan.

Having seen them like that now, I understand. I was thinking the tubes would be affixed to the bottom of the pan externally. Seeing how they run those, yeah, that would be an awesome idea as long as it, obviously, didint interfere with anything or cost you too much in fluid capacity.

In fact, it almost seems like it would be worth while to fashion some type of skid plate to protect the pan so you could use a slightly deeper pan. Just a thought though.

The MSP designed pan has them externally welded. I don't think that the Grand Prix pan without modification is deep enough for the internal cooling tubes.

Or you would have to go with some small diameter tubes. But then I would wonder where the point of diminishing returns comes into play with that.

Yes the MSP tubes were welded on the outside. I think the point was to allow air to pass under the pan, and exchange the heat from the fluid sitting at the bottom internally before it went back into the pump. It seemed to work, but the only real way to tell would be to have your temp port on one with the external tubes and one without. I know when I had mine there, the temp rarley got over 150*. Right now my temp sensor is at the upper pressure port and it reads around 210* consistantly and 220* on hot days. The only thing I don't like about the sensor being in that location is the crossover pipe is right above it. I would like to compare temps with that and the internal sensor that the pcm sees.

I have a machine shop at my job. And an extra transmission pan as well. I may be able to get him to take the design of the stock pan and make a deeper one with internal tubes. I'll talk with him and see if he can fab me up one just as a prototype.

Keep us posted on that. I for one am really interested and would probably get one if the price wasnt crazy. I would like to have a drain plug with one of Incomudrox's pans but if cooling can be combined with it, Id like to do that as well. Im all about getting that tranny fluid cooled down to around 160 - 170* consistently.

I think for price and ease welding them externally is allot cheaper and should yeild good results from japslpr is saying when he has his. Granted internal cooling pipes would be freaking badass.
