Default What Mods void warranty?

Hello everyone. I purchased my 04compg a few months back. Since it only had 17k miles on it it was very cheap to extend my warranty for 3 years or 52,000miles. Since I have the worst luck with cars I went ahead and bought that warranty. Its the GM Major Guard warranty.

Well now that I'm getting used to this car and making sure its running clean (just changed the s/c oil, switched to synthetic fluid, cleaning maf sensor and throttle body, dropped in a quart of lucas oil stabilizer the oil change before I switched to sythetic, will have a coolant flush done and fuel filter replaced before i start modding) I want to start doing a little engine modding. What I have so far is GMPP trailing arms, MSP upper engine mounts, 180tstat and K&n drop-in. I know my current minor mods won't void the warranty.

What I really want to do is PCM (Overkill Motorsports!!), 2.5" DP w/ hi flo cat, Wizair intake and different spark plugs and wires. These mods will probably be about good for me. I rarely WOT the car, im too paranoid about **** breaking. I think if I take car of the car my future mods that I have planned won't put too much stress on the vehicle.

Now if I have trouble with my car I can just swap out the PCM's and bring it in, but will the DP void my warranty, if they even notice it? I'm assuming the spark plug wires and Wizair will not void anything. Thanks for the help. If I asked this question on ClubGP right now I probably would get ZERO responses.

-Patrick

They dealership would have a hard time denying warranty with the mods you listed. I would keep your stock PCM to swap out before taking your car in for service. They cannot read what tune you have, but they sure can write a stock file over your Overkill one. That would be a bad thing.

Basically if something goes wrong with your car, in order to deny warranty, they would have to prove your mods caused the issue...that would be very hard in most cases, especially lightly modded.

Me I would swap PCM and throw the stock airbox in for warranty work. I no longer do this, as my dealership can see the headers, hear the lope of the cam, and there is always a few other visuals to be spotted.

When you get the coolant flush DO NOT GET DEX COOL re filled.. It will eat the metal inside the head. and cause build up that will block coolant passages. Go green on the coolant flush and fill.

I want proof of this part of your statement. Show me a documented case in which Dex Cool was DIRECTLY responsible for eroding the metal in a head to such a degree.

Does it not bother you at all that you are the only one out of nearly 750 members on this site that has a NEGATIVE user reputation? You know why that is? Because of silly misinformation like you posted. User reputation is a review of your peers, other members in this community, of their opinion of the information you are posting. Yours is negative. Are you putting two and two together here or should I break out the counting blocks?

I know all about the class action suit, and its about a gelling issue with Dex-Cool, not it eating the metal of the heads.

Show me the proof.

We have, and have had for years, GP and Impalas as fleet vehicles. I know of no Dexcool issues. Sure I've seen the pictures of some on the vehicles with supposedly issues caused by Dex, but I bet most are related to not having a healthy engine in the first place or poor maintenance practices.

It is interesting how long this "class action" lawsuit has been talked about.

fwiw my daughters 02 Cavi has almost 80K on it and the dex still looks like a fresh pitcher of orange koolaid.

Well Im one that had issues from a perfectly maintained GP, as I had the history on it. I dont argue the gelling issue, as that is exactly what happened to mine. Further more, it eventually hardened that gel into a sand like substance and proceeded to deposit it like cement into my radiator.

A new radiator, a coolant filter and a switch to green coolant and Ive had no issues since. Ive particularly had no gelling issues and my coolant filter remains clean for months now rather than days before the coolant switch. I put the filter on prior to the switch in the hopes I could save my radiator and stop the sandy crap before it got there but alas it was just a wee too late. But I literally had to clean out the filter about every other day leading up to the destruction of the radiator. Since then, I have to clean it maybe every other month or so if that.

But it has not ate through my heads and in all my reading about the Dex Cool issue I have yet to see one case of that.

Very few have had those kinds of problems though. I'm sure it can happen but the odds seem pretty small.
