I dunno, you may be right, but I would be difficult to convince with the number of reports out there and the class action suit that is in progress. Its there, I even had documents on it at one time, but with all such things it will probably be a while before anything comes of it.

Yea some people at over at ClubGP are against dex-cool. I think I will switch it out just for the peace of mind. What do you guys think about replacing the dexcool with some of this:

Evans Cooling Systems, Inc. High Performance Engine Cooling and Power Production.

Ive have ran across them before and quite frankly if what they claim is true it would be a great product for supercharged engines.

Its a little pricey but not so much that it might not be worth it. Id be tempted to try it, but I sure would want to be sure I get everything out of the system before installing it.

My questions to them would be what is the life of the coolant and can it be mixed, just in case you dont get everything out. If you decide to use it, let me know, Id be interested in your experience with it.

I think I've seen that somewhere before. Very interesting find.

fwiw I bought my car with 9K miles on it from a dealer. As part of the purchase agreement I had them flush the Dex, install green and put it writing that the green coolant would NOT void the warranty. I did this back when I read that stuff over at Clubgp too. I would not likely switch from Dex if I had to do it over. Not that the green is bad or anything, I just think my reason for switching was flawed.

That's a funny way to talk to an Administrator of the forum Especially when your're dead wrong.

Here's the items/vehicles addressed in the class action suit tentative settlement:

GM automobile owners and lessees will have the option to be included in this class action settlement if they incurred out-of-pocket expenses for any of the following repairs:
1. A replacement of the nylon/silicone lower intake manifold gasket, made within the earlier of 7 years or 150,000 miles of the date of initial delivery for 1995-2003.5 Model Year vehicles with 3.1-liter V6 and 3.4-liter V6 engines that were originally equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.
2. A coolant sealability repair (including, but not limited to, throttle body gasket, upper intake manifold gasket, lower intake manifold gasket, etc.), made within the earlier of 7 years or 150,000 miles of the date of initial delivery for 1995 - 2004 model year 3.8-liter V6 engines (RPO L36) that were originally equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.
3. A Dex-Cool sludge repair, made within the earlier of 7 years or 150,000 miles for 1995 - 2000 model year S/T light trucks and sport utility vehicles with 4.3-liter V6 engines that were originally equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.

No mention of eating Heads. nowhere.

This just supports what I've said for years that Dex is not a bad product. The problem is the crap that people put in their coolant systems to fix leaks, and not maintaining the system. If you take care of things, it will survive. Don't patch a problem...FIX IT.
