Default 1995 GP Tranny problem

Grand Prix SE with the 3.1 liter V6. Problem started with a vibration in the gear shift handle when in reverse. Then, yesterday, I could hear a clicking noise while I was in reverse. Today, I went out to the car to back out of my drive way, put it in reverse and nothing happened. I jiggled the gear shift a little and gave it a lot of gas, and if finally got the gear (after nearly jerking my head off) This happened a few more times, and now I get nothing out of reverse no matter how much jiggling or accelerator tapping I do.

When you put the shifter in reverse will the car move? Does it just act like you are reving the engine against the torque converter and it is locked until you drop the shifter lower into neutral or drive? If the engine is NOT running but you turn the key on and put the shifter in reverse can you push the car freely?

Terribly rude of me to post this and then not answer the questions you asked.

The problem was apparantly that the clutch and gear plate had welded to together (i'm paraphrasing what a mechanic told me) So I bought a used transmission, and have installed it, with some help from my brother and my cousin. It runs great now, though I've got a leak around my axle, that should be corrected when I buy the new axle for it.
