Default Mr Trannyman, I need your advice

Okay, I found a donor car to put my valvetrain in. Its a 2002 GP GT. Now my current transmission is a stock GTP unit with a shift kit. I was wondering if it was alright to use the GT transmission seeing as it already has the gearing that I want. My plan is to refresh it and put in some hardened parts. Or should I keep my GTP trans and refresh that with new gearing? Please give me some words of wisdom, thanks alot.

I'd say go with the younger trans. The only differences are the torque converter size and the differential.

I forgot about that... might be nice for him to have the higher stall converter. We could easily swap the diff from his other car if it looks good when we take it out, so thats no big deal.

Either way it isnt really going to matter much if you plan to go through the GT trans. As mentioned above other than the gear the differential and converter are really the only main differences between the two and all other internals are the same. If the GT trans looks to be in better shape then I would use it and go ahead with your plans to upgrade it.
