Default GMR 1" Chain/Gears for Turbo/Twin Charged

Is this absolutely necessary to buy when going turbo or will the 7/8 rocker style chain work? I'm talking about using this on a car that is mainly street driven and see's that track maybe 4 times a year.

I know that ZZP recommends the GMR 1" chain but I also know that they put there cars through hell at the tracks and mostly are drag cars.

Just wait till yours snaps and go with the 1" chain. I've heard of alot of guys that went through a few 15/16th chain and then finally smarted up to the 1".

They recommend it after 400hp, If you are going with a true twincharged setup then yes it will be necessary. T67 turbo can make a hell of alot more power than 400...

I'd rather not...that is why I am asking. That puts the bill up from 6k to almost 7k

You can run a 7/8th chain for 'a while' it's better than the 15/16th chain and will actually stretch rather then just snap all at once. Not saying that stretching is a good thing either but it will at least hold up a little while longer.

For the 400-450 whp builds the GM Racing 1" chain is the best way to go for the long haul. The 7/8" chain should survive a while but hard launches with slicks are going to put the most stress on it.

True.

I was pricing out a Z7 build and it was $7000 before I even got inside the engine, and that was including the 1" chain. Twincharged on your your xpz setup, you probably would go with the T70. Hell, if you sold all of your supercharged parts you could probably invest in more power for a straight turbo bigass turbo setup!!! I'm a little skeptical about how the blower becomes useless after a certain psi and the bbv opens up after that, your rotors are still creating heat and the intercooler plate is still making that turbo work harder to push past the little bbv opening and then the intercooler core after that... Thats just a thought though because there isn't enough twincharged setups to give us input on this... Sure zzp says it will make more hp or whatever but where are those setups then???

That's just it, there aren't enough twin charged setups on the GP's out there. However, there are a few Cobalts out there with twin charged setups showing some good numbers. You can bore out the BBV hole and make it bigger and modify the blower a little to help the flow of air.

I could sell some of my S/C parts, but the market for GTP's has slowed way down and nobody is really buying gen III M90's anymore.

Just curious (and off topic), are you planning to dual intercool your setup as well? I was wondering if a guy could use the S/C w/a ic and spray alky for the extra intercooling affect instead of running an A/A IC. Lotta heat so that may not work...
