Also, even if the fuel expanded when it got hot outside (which I doubt it does), this would not improve your fuel mileage. Your engine would still burn the same amount of fuel. You would just be getting more/less fuel for the same money.

The fuel does expand once it heats up. You never notice this because of the evap system on the cars equalizes the pressure when it expands and contracts.

On older cars, you'll hear the air rush in/out when you loosen the fuel cap.

My 95 Camaro would do that all the time when the tank was very low (under 1.5 gallons in tank)
