Maybe what u could do is custom make an intake far from the engine bay with PVC...its really easy and cheap...yes cheap.....and maybe ghetto...but anyways i think its a whole lot better than that hot metal right in dead center of the engine bay by my personal opinion...

PVC releases a toxic gas when it gets hot. Better to go with ABS.

Help, yes. But not totally eliminate the problem or at least the possibility of it occurring. Is ABS that hard to come by?

Um, no. If your engine bay is getting hot enough to make PVC pipe release toxic gas and melt then you have much bigger problems to worry about. PVC is perfectly fine to use as an intake.

Depending on the manufacturer and what (if any) stabilizers were used, PVC can start to emit HCl gas (hydrogen chloride) at temperatures as low as 180-200*F. Regular operating temps for an engine bay.
