Hey i got a 98 3.8 w/90k. Im getting some noise from the farside head. The noise sounds like a mini knock but its coming from wat sounds like the head. I only makes the noise when the cars been warmed up, no noise when its cold. If you SLOWLY EASE the throtle on it goes away but under a normal throtle pull the noise turns to a chatter that gets really quiet at first but once you pass 2k you hear it again. Its not a knock its way to quiet but you can hear it standing aay from the car. It made this noise since ive had it. I recently had the intake crack and i hydrolocked it trying to start it (It blew on the interstate and the motor had no go to it so i pulled off to a gas station and it shut down and when i tried to restart it, it locked up, busted the endcap off the starter) i dont think its gotten worse since that happened but i think im more pariniod about it. Any ideas? im new to pontiacs i usually ride honda but i love this car.

is it a tapping? when the engine blew on my 03 mazda 6 it soulnded like a powerstroke F350 engine. Ended up blowing the bearings apart, my buddies 99 Grand Am did the same sounded like the pistons were slamming on the heads, then the thing just seized up. If its just a tapping noise, it could just be the valves sticking, a motor flush should do the trick. How did you hydrolock the engine on start up? you would have to be sitting in a pool of water.
