Default Over heating?

My car today after about 13 min of driving said that the temp was 260! What is up with this its not even hot out. First 6 min was at 75mph and then I drove through a car lot stopped looked at 4 cars and then left and the rest of the way home I was doing 40mph. When I got home it was hot fans full blast and all. What would cause this like I said its not even hot out here.

could be a thermostat stuck closed, when the car is at 260. check the radiator hoses, the top one particularly, you must be careful though this may be super -hot, also check the radiator, but same warning about temp..

If both are only luke warm, like 85 - 115 degrees the thermostat is most likely stuck closed

Simple things first. Make sure your coolant is full.

and no air in the system. When was the last time the t stat was changed? If it's been a while go ahead and replace it (they are under $10 usually)

It has a blown head gasket or intake gasket. The coolant is all in the oil. I took it to a shop to day and they said it will cost 500$ or 900$. I will be getting her back all fixed by the end of the week.

Yes, the 3.1 and 3.4s are known for their LIM gaskets going, just as much as the 3.8 are. I did one on my wife's malibu. Not a hard job. Just takes time. My first time it took me about 8 hours. But I take my time and work slow.

my first try took 4 weeks(1.5 hours per day at school) and had to be torn down right away, because the new one leaked
