Everywhere I've read you should use 105# springs on the intake valves with the ER rockers.

i have the ER rockers for over a year now, i shift @ 6000 and i have not changed the valvesprings. 105's are not needed for these springs, this isnt a high revving DOHC motor so i dont see the point of revving this engine to 40,000 rpm with just rockers and springs as a valvetrain upgrade. the LS engines run 90* springs and make over 400hp why would a piss ant 3.8 need a giant valvespring for? valve float? soon as a valve floated the motor would blow. valves dont just float one time and go back to normal, more Grand Prix forum urban myths.... install your rockers, make sure you clean the oil out before you torque down the bolts and enjoy your new top end

Ummm Valve float won't necessarily kill a motor. If the valve does not contact the piston nothing really happens.

Aren't the ER rockers modified stock rockers? If so then I am sure it is just like the modified 1.9s. You don't need springs with them because they flex so much at higher rpms causing you not get the full affect of the 1.9s. If you went with a higher strength 1.9 I would get springs.

That's a terrible comparison. There's more to it than just seat pressure. There's spring rate, lift, how heavy the valve train parts (valve, rocker, pushrod) added are, etc. That's like saying "a motor cycle can get away with two-cylinders! Why can't we?"

No, they don't just "float one time and go back to normal". Valve float doesn't instantly destroy the motor. I've worked on LSx engines that have valve float already (from certain mods) and we worked to fix it. The intake valve can simply close halfway during the compression stroke. That causes no chance of piston interference but you lose chamber pressure because you were pushing air out of the valve when it should've been closed.

Point is, you could have valve float and not even really know it.

Okay, I found the post where Wizbang (the main guy who developed the ER rockers) recommends not using stock springs unless you keep the stock shift points. Anything over that he recommends using a better spring on the intake valves.

It's on the "other forum", so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link. But I have it if someone wants it in PMs.
