Question Side view mirrors and red interior illumination

A newbie's first question(s) of many, I'm sure to have on the 97-03 GP's.

1) The exterior side view mirrors.

Are there any other GM model mirrors that would be a direct swap ?.

It seems many find the "pass-thru" design to be pretty cool ... but I myself would prefer a good ole' fashioned solid mirror of a folding design.

2) Pontiac's trademark red interior illumination.
(displays/gauges/switches etc etc)

Is there any EASY way to change over each & every thing that lights up/is backlit in red, or is it pretty involved ?. I see where a lot of people have done custom stuff with LED's thru-out the interior. I was hoping there was a simpler solution, such as simply removing bulb cover or lens covers and calling it a day.

Never been a big fan of that red look. Maybe it would grow on me over time once I own one.

Mine are neither pass through nor folding.

The interior is done easy enough, but somewhat lengthy process. I converted mine to blue. Granted, different car, but GM still behind it. The original lighting in my car was accomplished by using a yellowish white incandescent bulb with blue covers which (once it hit the switch surface) resulted in the stock lighting "beige" color.

I did a lot of the work myself, but some things which were more delicate/difficult I left to an expert. So, my dash cluster and my HVAC controls were done by someone else. I did all my switches myself (window controls, lock controls, dimmer/headlight switch, foglight switch, and traction control switch). It was a *****, to be honest. I soldered LEDs so they won't ever burn out.

End result:

(my steering wheel controls are what the stock lighting used to be, and I've since dealt with them)

to be honest I love the red lighting, but i have found that most aftermarket stereos i've looked at and like won't match....so my system is still stock until i find a match

I can change the screen colors on mine and red is an option. Would look awesome.

So it appears the instrument cluster itself, would be pretty easy to go blue or green, with one of those aftermarket panels. The rest it appears you would have your work cut out.

Any confirmed 411 on the side view mirrors yet ?.

I've been looking at several other GM car photos & there are some that look like they have the same size/shape base where it bolts to the door.

Already replied in your CGP thread, but figured I should add it here as well.

I went out and measured my GTP and Regal GS for you and all dimensions of the base were the same. My GS mirrors don't have the "pass-thru" and they fold. I like the stock mirrors my self (although I would like to modify them a bit).

Also, here is a pic of DaytonaTR's GP with Monte Carlo mirrors. So those fit for sure.

Hope this helps. I'm sure there are other GM models you could chose from as well.

Nice to hear there are some mirrors that will work.

Good to know my eyes were not deceiving me.

The Regal & Century were in fact one of the cars I thought would work. Further research(eBay) seems to be telling me the Olds Intrigue mirrors are pretty much the same as the Regal/Century ones.

I feel alot better knowing I can swap mirrors if I end up with a GP.

Pontiac/GM should have offered the other division's mirrors in addition to the later model GP mirror(98+ I'm thinking ?). It seems it would have really cut down on wind noise, which seems to be something the very early 97-03 people complained about.

I'll admit the Monte mirrors do look better than the pass thru GP's ... but they don't fold. I'd rather have some folding ones ... I've been in plenty of scenarios where that was quite handy.

Tight garages, driveways, tight street parking, etc etc.
