Default Rust behind and under back seat

What causes the rust behind the back seat on the GP? I took out my back seat on the 03 to see if I could fabricate a child restraint plate that is offered on the 2000 and newer cars for my 00 GP. When I did mine was covered in rust. Is this a known issue and what can I do to stop it.

Dude, you have a water leak somewhere. My 99 GTP w/ 155k + being a former Michigan car doesn't look anything like that.

It could also be the result of condensation on bare metal.

Mines an 03 with 51,000 from Kentucky. Doesn't snow here much but it rains all the damn time now and the humidity level is always high. Since I moved back from Colorado I miss the snow.

Note: This car's never seen snow.

Think I'll take it out, clean it off, paint it, and see if it comes back.

sounds like a good idea! they make a paint that completely inhibits rust.

more than likely from all the moisture in the air.
