Default Interior Questions... Katskinz....

Hey guys,

Here pretty soon I would like to redo my interior alittle. My Drivers and Passenger seats are starting to show there wear although my backseat is in mint condition. I'm thinking about doing something different. What aftermarket seat skins are availible for a 97-03 GP? How are the Katskinz? How hard are they to install? I mainly want to do the seats only, I'll most likely leave the door panels alone, I like the stock tuck and roll look.

I donno how many here have redone there interiors, hopefully someone here can help me out.

I went to a local shop and priced custom interior, I was quoted $2,500! No way in hell I'll spend that, I'll find some nice OEMs if it'll be that much. And I thought Katskinz were pricey!

Thanks for any info...

Ive seen pictures of a couple GP's done with Katskins and they most definitely looked sweet. But there is also the option of swapping in the 04+ seats or maybe it was the GXP seats. There is a how to here on which to use and how to go about it. So perhaps thats an option.

You can most definitely do them yourself, even if you've never done anything like it before.

I know there are write ups out there how to do it. It's easier than it looks!

Sounds like time for you to put together a group buy on some seats.

Went in with one years back on the other forum, and it was pretty easy to get everything done and at a good price.

I didn't want to mess anything up with removing my seat covers, or installing the new ones...so I paid a local shop to do it. I took them the seats already removed from my car, and the box of new seat covers. They took about 4 weeks longer than they told me they would so missed out on a couple of car related events I was looking forward to going to. They discounted for the trouble but still did quality work. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone else though for the trouble they caused me. There is another local company thats awesome, a little pricey, but awesome.

Here is some pictures of mine:

But I did recover my own door panels and rear seat sides myself in something a little more desirable.

All in all, the replacement LEATHER was well worth it, so much softer than GM's "Pleather" -plastic/leather mix they try to pass off as leather.

Most shops that do upholstery can and will charge an average of 40 dollars per hour. It takes roughly 8 hours per bucket seat, and 16 hours per bench seat just to do the sewing. If they are a quality shop and actually care about the customer, they will not charge for cutting the patterns and disassembling the seats. Doing the math by the average shop, just the labor comes out to be 1,280 dollars even, since labor can't be taxed you are safe with that number. With really high end materials it can get to be pricey, but with a good quality vinyl (that will fool almost anyone into thinking its real leather) it should be in the area of 600-900 dollars for materials with tax and all.

Breakdown:
$1,280 + $900 = $2,180 at the most.

Another option would be for the shop to replace the parts that are wearing out with a matching vinyl and it would look brand new again.
