Default HID high beam question.

Ok, I've been trying to search, but the combination of words required turns up everything that doesn't help and most of the words I want are too short to actually search for, so that's why I'm having to post a new thread.

I've got an '01 GP, with a basic 9007-1 HID set, plug and play. That means I get low beams only, and if I switch to high beams the headlights go dark. What I want to do is route power from the high beams to the low beams, so that if I accidentally hit or go into high beam mode, power stays going to the low beams and I still have light. Can this be done by just splicing (for lack of a better word) the high beam wire into the low beam wire where the HID ballast plugs into the factory bulb adapter?

It seems straightforward enough to work, but I'm sure there are complications like voltage and amperage that I'm not accounting for, and I want to make sure it's safe to do it before I just try it. I'm pretty sure I've seen something like this asked and answered before while I was doing my research on HIDs, but for the life of me I cannot find it again.

Anyone know how to help?

There is a simple wiring mod under the dash that takes care of that problem. Be aware, that if you switch back to halogens, you MUST remove the wiring mod or damage will result.

1) Unplug the DRL diode from the harness.
2) Make a jumper that taps into the TAN wire on the DRL harness.
3) Tap the jumper into the YELLOW wire at the headlamp switch, pin L.
4) Tape up the end of the DRL harness so it won't start a forest fire...

Oh good, more working with wires through a tiny hole with my big hands.

Thanks for the answer, now I just have to think about the best way to get under there again.

Drop the lower IP cover and work from the bottom up... Or, you can pull the harness through the opening on the LH side of the dash and easily work right there.
