Default badging - double sided foam

Where would one get that paper thin double sided sticky foam used for attaching emblems or badges, as some would call them?

you're looking for 3M double sided adhesive tape... should be pretty easy to pick up at most auto parts stores.

I guess that's what I'm looking for. Is it back? The emblems on my Impala are all stuck on with this stuff.

What I'm thinking about doing is removing the Impala chrome emblems right behind the rear door windows, remove the black plastic IMPALA SS lettering on the lower half of the front doors... And go old school... I have two new GM restoration 1962 rear quarter panel emblems *see avatar* that I want to install at basically the same location as they were on the 1962 Impala SS. These emblems have three pins that go through the body and are held with metal retainers. I'm not drilling holes in my car, so I'll have to cut off the mounting pins and use the same foam tape used on newer vehicles for mounting. Front bowtie will have to be removed and painted red to match, but I've done that before.

it's grey... the backing on either side is red.

though walmart and auto parts stores typically just have it in smaller rolls. if you look online, you should be able to find squares of it that you can put behind your emblem and use an exacto knife around it....

When I said is it back, I meant black but a charcoal gray is find too. The emblems don't have a lot of continous surface area, so it's inportant that it blend in with the black paint.

Thanks guys.

Well the black stuff you are referring to, I think can only be had online. And even then I would not know where to look for that. You might have to goto 3M's website and inquire on where you would want that.

My car is that dark metallic blue and it really doesnt show up unless you are looking for it. And like Toasty said, I simply got two types of the tape, one that is about an 1" in width and the other was like 1/2" in width. I used different types for different applications obviously.

The picture below is one of the badges I had to resticker after removing the black paint from the background. It took some time to cut around the GTX but it came out pretty good. Even at a side angle you really cant see the tape in the 2nd picture.

PLUS you can always use a black Sharpie to cover over the grey edges of the tape. Granted I have not tried that, but I am not nearly as pickie as you my friend

That looks good even too me. I'm not picky, I just expect nothing less than perfection. Which is why I probably shouldn't attempt this. I hate to be mad at myself.

Home Depot has this stuff too. I have used it to hang signs and all sorts of applications. If both surfaces are cleaned properly this stuff really, really sticks well!
