No problem, glad I could help out. Print a copy of that thing out if you got a printer that will do the pictures well enough and save it, share it, spread it around or point people here that need it if you come across anyone.

Talking Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement [*]

So my husband and I had to replace this sensor this weekend and I am soo thankful that I had found this thread..... finding the bolts to go into the harmonic balancer was a chore...we got the 4inch ones and they were actually too long.....so we would say maybe a 3 1/2 inch ones if you can find them...but I am soo glad that I had found this or our car would still be sitting in the garage thank you very much!!!!!!

    SyntheticShield, I had a question.
I'm a little confused on the step where you said to, "Clamp a pair of good heavy duty vice grips on the flywheel towards the front side of the engine."

I was going to attempt this later today and want to know exactly how and why to do this? thanks in advance.

You do this to prevent the crank from spinning when you're trying to remove the harmonic balancer bolt.

If you look at this picture you can see exactly where to put it under the car.

Fantastic write up and diagnostic details. I have been chasing this "ghost" for about three years. I must have a short in the wire or a tempermental sensor. Sometimes it does it orten and then will disappear for a while. Any one in the Houston area in for a mod day?

Worked great for me, still had to use 3 sets of pullers to piece mill the exact parts that I needed for this but I didn't have a problem at all working on the wife's 2000 GT.

This procedure made my day. I never thought I would get that bolt to break free, especially after snapping a 1/2 in. drive extention. After reading this write up it all became perfectly clear. Thanks for taking the time to explain step by step.

Well just did this got a Duralast sensor from AZ. could not get my bolt loose with a 36" breaker bar it had a pound of red thread locker on it; so i did the "disable the ICM, wedge the breaker bar on the support and give it crank", it broke free instantly. I used a lisle 3300-3800 puller it came with the bolts that fit perfect as well as the metal rod to protect the crank threads. big thanks for this how-to and TorqueAutoMotiv for helping me out.

Scotty, Thank you SO much for the write up - My brother-in-law (who is an awesome mechanic and all-around awesome guy) replaced my CPS for me and now my 01 GTP is running like a top again. Of course we had to replace 2 window regulators (total of all four replaced now) and the Multi-function switch in the steering column too. I hope I'm done with repairs for a while. I really can't complain too much this is the first real money I've had to put into it. Much better than a new car payment. Thanks!

Jack and support passenger side front of car.
    Remove tire
Remove plastic splash shield in front of harmonic balancer
    Untension belts
    Remove crank bolt (24mm)
Using a balancer puller and m6 x 1.00 pitch bolts about 60-75mm in length pull the balancer

    Disconnect crank sensor electrical

    Remove plastic crank sensor shield

Remove crank sensor (2 x 13mm bolts and wiggle it)

    Reverse for installation.

Tip, when reinstalling the plastic crank sensor shield. Ensure each of the three nubs have clicked on the bolt ends.

The balancer has a keyway on it, see pic above. If you set the balancer on the crank and turn it while pushing toward the motor, it will engage the key way and you won't be able to turn it by hand anymore. From there put the crank bolt back in and torque.
