Coolant Requirements - Extended Life (Orange) or Yellow/Green OK?

I had my coolant flushed at Valvoline and they advised me to use the green coolant instead of the recommended extended life. They stated the extended life is corrosive for the aluminum block and the green has all the required additives and meets the specs.

I went ahead and let them do it and now I'm wondering if I made the right move?

Anybody have any factual information on this (please, not just opinions)?

Update: I did find this information that has put my mind at ease (if it is in fact correct)

Dexcool isn't called Dexcrap for no reason. It is corrosive to aluminum. There's a class action law suit against GM about it. Alot of people on here have converted back to green.

Interesting. Didn't know that. Glad I listened to Valvoline then!

This is the ONLY time I will EVER say this: "Ive gone green". My 04 just rolled over 215k with no ill effects of running the green for the last 125k

explain to me how i used your epic green stuff and had more corrosion in six months than I had in the two years before that.

I found an article with facts once.

But it was ignored, just like everything else on GPF.

I think ppl who dont change there dexcool are the ones who has most the problems... Ive been using 50/50 of the dexcool and something universal. NO problems as i drain my coolant once a year... Car is getting older and seems like theres a lil more build up each time...

dexcool doesnt do any harm if maintained properly, just like old school green coolant.

It's kinda funny ... I read Deathcool, Dexcrap and sorry guys. I see a lot of misinformation.

I've been told Dex killed the plastic gaskets. Except, other manufacturers (Ford/Dodge/imports etc) also all switched to nylon framed gaskets and had trouble with their gaskets as well. A perfect example of this was 92-95 Series 1 motors. They had the plastic gaskets and rarely did people change them. When they did... found the same issues that Dex was being blamed for, the difference. All those cars shipped with green and were always maintained with green. Gaskets still went.... the information available says.. not the coolant.

Dex in its early formulation did/does turn to oat pretty easy if air is introduced into the system often enough. Say through a small leak. This is fact. There are tons of cars out there with Dex and no issues. My truck..when it hit 8 years old and had 120,000 miles on it.. I maintained the coolant system. Wait a second you say.. 8 years? That is well past the 5/150k that GM recommends. I ... didn't do the proper maintenance on time. Truck still runs fine, and I know that having plastic gaskets.. it needs them done.

My 200K engine looked brand new inside when I took the motor apart. The aluminum parts were shiny and in pristine condition. Lower intake gaskets were original plastic - a little warped but still sealing. There seemed to be a little corrosion to the heads around the intake cooling ports. I've had the car since 110K and never flushed the cooling system!

Now guess what coolant was in the car.
