Default coolant elbow broken, will not come out.

I'm replacing the coolant elbows. As expected, 2 ends broke. I'm trying to get it out with a little screwdriver but having little success.

Any ideas on how to get them out? they seem seized in there and are not budging. using the screwdriver seems like its just scraping it little by little.

Hoping there's something I can do it.. Like heat it up with something, or spray something that will eat it up or something.

Any ideas, suggestions, or anything will be appreciated. thanks.

I'm out there with one right now.. tugging away at it... seems hopeless

should I attempt heating it up with something? I'm concerned about doing something I should NOT do as well as could do.

I won the 6th round. got one off from the pulley. now the upper intake's turn. I can only do so much in this cold weather.

Did you have to remove any parts in order to fit the new elbows? Were they (the new elbows) flexible enough to be "seated" with out moving parts? Did you have to move the water pump and bolts? I kind of haven't exactly found the second one, yet. Do you recommend replacing both if replacing one?

For 97/98 models, there is no 2nd elbow, the lower elbow is built into the tensioner pulley housing.

I replaced my tensioner housing and the upper elbow broke as well. I had used a paint can opener to remove the broken piece. The new tensioner housing came with a new elbow with o-rings.

If anyone wants to make some money, make some aluminum coolant elbows.

Thanks, I have a 2000 GTP. Not sure if I have metal or plastic type, yet. I went to pick up the elbows today. They were both plastic. The dealer says the 2000 only ever had plastic (best he could remember). I will get started tomorrow mourning. I will update then.

If you have not done it yet. remember where each bolt goes!! if you use the wrong bolt, it will go too far in and you will be screwed.

I should have taken pictures, but it was freezing at the time, and wanted to get it done.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did like you said. I kept the bolts straight. Left them in where I could. I marked the others. Cleaning out that "little plastic ring" that got stuck inside the bracket (at the upper elbow) was "fun". I tried not to disturb the "heater couplers". It worked just like you said. So far, no leaks. Thanks.
